    More than 300 cannabis plants with a street value of £30,000 have been seized, external from a house in Shelton, police say.

    The electricity supply had been diverted from elsewhere to provide heating for the plants which police say was "very dangerous".

    The city council's cabinet is being asked to approve extra spending of £150,000 on the bid, ahead of the overall winner being announced in December.

    Millions of rail users will see a 3.6% increase in regulated rail fares from January next year.

    As an example, the current price for an annual season ticket from Stoke-on-Trent to Birmingham, on any permitted route, is £2,980. A 3.6% increase will see that go up by more than £107.

    The fares are pegged to the Retail Price Index (RPI) which reached 3.6% last month.

    Angry passenger groups have suggested the RPI measure should be scrapped, but the government said fare increases were justified by improvements to the network.

    Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service says it wants to employ more firefighters over the next month and has started a recruitment drive.

    The next stage of a £5m plan to restore the Wedgwood Institute, in Burslem, is being put together by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

    The grade two-listed building is nationally significant but has been closed for nearly a decade.

    Two teenagers have been arrested after what police described as a vicious assault on a man in Abbey Hulton.
