Latest weather for the West Midlands
Hundreds of schools and academies across the West Midlands are closed for a second consecutive day due the extreme winter weather.

There are also closures listed in Stoke-on-Trent, external, Staffordshire,, externalWolverhampton, external, and Sandwell, external, along with about 60 in Warwickshire, external.
Twenty or so schools remain closed in Coventry, while Birmingham City Council says it's left the decision up to individual schools.

Last night's freezing temperatures mean there could be icy stretches on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, the Met Office says.
The weather warning for ice, external is in place for the whole of the West Midlands until 11:00.

Paramedics who were called out in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, to a report of someone sitting on a bench, not moving and covered in snow say it turned out to be a statue.
West Midlands Ambulance Service worker Katie Tudor tweeted about the story,, external saying they'd been called today by a "concerned member of the public".

More than 3,000 people have signed a petition , externalagainst plans for a turkey farm near Stafford.

Campaigners claim it'll be cruel for the animals and will have a huge impact on traffic in the area and the health of local residents.
BBC Radio Stoke's tried to contact Holt Farms who are behind the plans but they've declined to comment.

Work is due to start in the new year on the first of two 11-storey apartment blocks in Stoke-on-Trent city centre.
The proposals from Genr8 Developments include shop units, a gym and offices on the ground floor at the Smithfield site in Hanley.

The second phase of 126 homes will be built at a later date.

Three buildings were set alight over two days, leading to a hospital being evacuated.

A police spokeswoman said the victim is in a serious but stable condition.
The arrested man is in custody. Police are looking for two other men and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

More than 350 schools in the West Midlands will be shut for another day tomorrow due to the forecast icy, wintry weather conditions.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice from this evening, external into tomorrow morning, following the snow that's already fallen.

A dry and clear night is forecast with widespread frost and icy conditions developing by the early hours.
It will be a much colder night with temperatures dropping down to -5C (23F) in the inner cities and -11C (12F) in some rural places.
