    A Crewe school, which specialises in educating children with learning needs, is going to be expanded at a cost of £1m.

    Cheshire East Council says it means the number of pupils at Springfield School will rise from 132 to 156.

    The expansion has been agreed after it was shown the authority needed to provide more places to avoid children having to travel for specialist education.

    It says it has decided to consolidate the European manufacturing of certain products.

    The Common Road based business says it could affect 32 jobs and is asking for volunteers for redundancy.

    It covered an area of around 10,000 square metres at Central Forest Park.

    Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 13:00, and says it is concerning how many fires are being started deliberately, especially in parks where they can easily spread.

    Firefighters are tackling what they describe as a "severe" house fire in Hanley.

    Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called to Century Street just after 16:00 and neighbouring terraced properties were evacuated.

    Plans to return live theatre to Warrington for the first time in a generation have moved a step closer.

    Warrington's cultural commission, set up following its failed City of Culture bid last year, has produced 15 proposals after consulting the public.

    Residents felt the town lacked a "cultural identity". Many demanded a new theatre to replace Crosfields Centenary Theatre, which shut in 1991.

    The 15 recommendations were backed by Warrington Borough Council on Monday.

    Poundworld, the struggling discount retailer, will close 25 stores, including the Birmingham Fort Retail Park shop, resulting in 242 job losses, administrators said.

    The stores named for closure will operate until 15 July, according to a memo sent to Poundworld staff.

    "The administrators have been preparing contingency plans in the event that we are not able to deliver a sale of the business as a whole," the memo said.

    Other stores in the area set to shut, are Sutton Coldfield and Crewe, the BBC understands.

    Twenty-five stores are set to shut nationwide, resulting in 242 job losses.

    The stores named for closure will operate until 15 July, according to a memo sent to Poundworld staff.

    "The administrators have been preparing contingency plans in the event that we are not able to deliver a sale of the business as a whole," the memo said.

    The retailer has 355 stores and employs 5,100 people across the UK.
