    Hospital bosses in Staffordshire say their winter preparations may mean they won't be forced to use a community hospital to cope with overspill.

    Last winter, beds were opened at Bradwell Hospital in Newcastle-under-Lyme as more than 200 patients at other hospitals were waiting to be discharged.

    Two new modular wards are due to open early next year creating 64 more beds for the county.

    Organisers behind a Remembrance service say they're devastated after discovering four generators needed for Sunday have been stolen.

    It's believed thieves broke into the compound at Queen's Park, Longton, where the generators were stored, overnight.

    Staffordshire Police says an investigation has been launched and officers are currently checking CCTV pictures.

    In a post on Facebook, the Queen's Park Partnership says, external the theft means they're also going to have to scale back how many events they hold next year.

    A council's agreed to pay £363,000 towards getting a leisure centre back in use - but only if that happens within a year.

    The building was owned by Staffordshire County Council but it has now agreed to hand it over to Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council for a nominal fee., external

    With that, the authority says it's also giving the £363,000 - the amount it says it would cost to demolish - to the borough council, on condition it is brought back into use for leisure within a year.

    A volunteer group, Kidsgrove Community Interest Organisation, external, is currently working with the borough council on bringing some of the centre back into use.

    A village is preparing to unveil a new war memorial on the centenary of the end of World War One.

    Plans to build a £75m Eddie Stobart warehouse on green belt land in Cheshire have been rejected.

    The proposals for a new national distribution centre at Stretton Green Distribution Park in Warrington have been rejected by council planners.

    Eddie Stobart predicted the plan could create about 480 jobs.

    But councillor Judith Wheeler said the "shameful" proposals show the firm's "arrogance and utter contempt for the local community,".

    A "neglected" 17th Century pond, which was once used to catch about 400 ducks a year, has been placed on Historic England's Heritage at Risk list.

    Hale Duck Decoy, a pentagonal pool surrounded by a moat and ditches, was "important", the organisation said.

    Rob Cockbain of Friends of Pickerings Pasture, who has campaigned to save the pond in Widnes, Cheshire, said it was underappreciated.

    "People would make a fuss over it... if it was a house [or] painting," he said.

    Police say they carried out raids on Mollison Road, Meir and Lightwood Road, Dresden, and there'll be searches throughout the day.

    A 19-year-old is being held on suspicion of conspiracy to commit criminal damage with intent to endanger life.

    Officers say his arrest relates to an incident in Meir on Monday evening, adding that no-one was hurt and it was "not a random attack".
