    Having made close to 250 appearances for Ipswich Town since 2008, defender Tommy Smith says he is enjoying his football and has no reason to want to move on at present.

    The 25-year-old's current deal finishes at the end of this season, but the club have an option to extend that for a further year. 

    "My agent has been in contact with the club," Smith told us. "The owner Marcus Evans is away for a few weeks, so there's been no progress just yet."

    A man is due before Ipswich magistrates this morning to be charged with four offences following the sexual assault of a 25-year-old woman in the Shakers Lane area of Bury St Edmunds last May.

    The 20-year-old was detained by police in Romania on 22 January, and brought back to the UK yesterday.

    He'll be formally charged with attempted rape, sexual assault, causing a female to engage in sexual activity without consent, and assault.

    Work is taking place in schools and colleges across Suffolk to assist and aid individuals who could be at risk from radicalisation.

    Sarah Hamlin, assistant chief constable for Suffolk and Norfolk, says the forces want to help people rather than criminalise them: "I think we need to be clear about that, particularly with young people who are swept up in what seems to become quite trendy... going out to Syria fighting. 

    "It looks very glamorous. It's actually not."

    Most of Ipswich Town's rivals at the top of the Championship spent big in the January transfer window, and defender Tommy Smith believes it will be even tougher to compete in the weeks to come.

    However, the New Zealand international adds that the Blues will be doing all they can between now and May to maintain their place in the play-off positions. 

    "The biggest pressure we face is what we put on ourselves internally," Smith said. "We know we should be in and around the top six and will do what it takes to stay there."

    A man is due to be sentenced later for stealing a dumper truck and leading police on a 30-mile chase through Norfolk and Suffolk.

    The pursuit started near Norwich and ended in Brandon where the driver, Nicholas Churchill, lived.

    The 40-year-old admitted dangerous driving, and driving while on drugs. He smashed into three police cars and drove through a pedestrian area during the incident.

    Ipswich Town defender Tommy Smith has acknowledged that manager Mick McCarthy has moved with the times when it comes to training sessions and recovery at the club.

    However, the 25-year-old says his own adoption of yoga as a fitness regime came long before McCarthy arrived at Portman Road. 

    "It started initially when I had my ankle injury back in 2008," Smith said. "Now it is something I do religiously."

  8. Ambulance service in Suffolk has busiest January everpublished at 09:06

    East of England Ambulance Service, external had its busiest-ever January, dealing with 80,000 calls last month.

    In Suffolk alone the number of calls increased by nine percent from 9,354 to 10,233. 

    Despite that, paramedics reached more patients with potentially life-threatening conditions within the eight-minute target.
