    It would cap a remarkable first season in charge for manager Emma Manning, who was appointed as Ipswich Town's, external first female coach earlier this week. 

    "To say we want to win the league might have been too high a step (when I arrived)," she said. "I just wanted to make sure the best players in the county wanted to play for the county and hopefully gain their respect, and if you've got good players hopefully results follow."

    I've been at the opening of the Re-use Shop at Foxhall, external, near Ipswich.

    Among the items, this Triang pedal car, thought to be from the 1950s or 60s.

    The shop's a first for Suffolk, with proceeds helping to raise money for charity.

    The Prison Service says an investigation will be held into the death of Derek Slade, the former boarding school head teacher who was jailed for 21 years for sexually abusing pupils.

    During his trial at Ipswich Crown Court, jurors heard how Slade, 66, hit boys with a slipper, a table tennis bat and his hand. He was convicted of offences against 12 boys aged between eight and 13.

    Confirming Slade died in hospital yesterday, a Prison Service spokesman said: “As with all deaths in custody there will be an investigation by the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.”

    Former boarding school head teacher Derek Slade, who was jailed for 21 years for sexually abusing pupils, has died.

    Slade, 66, was convicted in 2010 of sexually abusing and hitting 12 boys, aged between eight and 13, while at private schools in Wicklewood, Norfolk, and Great Finborough in Suffolk.

    A Prison Service spokesman said Slade, who was in prison in Norwich, died yesterday afternoon "at an outside hospital".

    An Ipswich woman who met with the man responsible for killing her son, has said: "It was braver for Jacob to come and see me, than for me to meet Jacob."

    Joan Scourfield was describing her meeting with Jacob Dunne, jailed in 2011 for the manslaughter of her son, James Hodgkinson.

    She said: "I was dreading it, sitting there waiting for him to walk into the room. If you look at the mugshots in the paper you see a horrible person... but actually meeting him, he is just a young lad. He has turned his life around and I can't ask any more from him."

    Paintings by Thomas Gainsborough are heading overseas for the Netherlands' first exhibition of the Sudbury artist's work.

    About 30 pieces from Gainsborough's House, where the artist was born, and three from the Ipswich Museum are being lent to the Rijksmuseum Twenthe, external in Enschede.

    In return for the Gainsborough loan, the Rijksmuseum Twenthe is lending the work of nine Dutch landscape artists who are said to have influenced Gainsborough, for display in Sudbury.

    Jacob Dunne, who was convicted of the manslaughter of a man he punched in Nottingham in 2011, has been speaking about meeting the victim's mother.

    Joan Scourfield, from Ipswich, met with the man who killed her son, James Hodgkinson, after he served his sentence. They will tell their story on ITV , externaltonight at 19:30.

    Mr Dunne said: "I was overwhelmed by their courage to come forward and put questions to me and hold me to account in a way. I thought if they have the courage to come to me, I should have the courage to at least try my best to answer their questions as honestly as I can."

    Melvin Benn, the founder of the Latitude Festival, external, says he is "thrilled" to announce The Maccabees, The National and New Order as this year's musical headliners.

    The Maccabees, who will headline this year's Latitude Festival, external alongside The National and New Order, say they are thrilled to be given top billing.

    Guitarist Felix White told Newsbeat the accolade was "definitely not lost on us".

    "We've been playing festivals in England for the best part of 10 years, so to be headlining one of the major ones is a big deal," he said. "It'll be a really special night."

    Organisers of the festival, which takes place 14-17 July at Henham Park near Southwold, have released the first set of acts this morning.

    Away from music, John Hegley, Don Paterson and Hollie McNish will perform in the poetry tent, while theatre acts include Circa, Improbable & Blind Summit and Gob Squad.

    The comedy acts are yet to be announced.

    Bury St Edmunds, external director of rugby Gavin Hogg (pictured) believes recent arrivals Sam Stirling and Maku Koroiyadi will "add a bit of energy to us for the run-in to the season".

    "Sam's joined us from Ireland," Hogg told BBC Suffolk. "He's a utility-back and has been with us a couple of weeks. Maku's joined us from the British Army. He's a Fijian back-row who's been capped by Fiji.

    "Hopefully Maku will come into the squad on Saturday (at home to Barnes) and make an impact off the bench. Hopefully their energy will be enough to keep us up."

  17. 'Good quality rubbish' goes on sale in new shoppublished at 08:34 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2016

    'Good quality rubbish' is going to be sold in a new shop today, at the Foxhall Recycling Centre near Ipswich.

    The shop is being run, external by the Benjamin Foundation charity, which helps with issues such as homelessness, bullying and abuse.

    Items have come from a number of recycling centres across the county, including Lowestoft, Bury St Edmunds and Felixstowe. Luke Deal will be there later this morning to show us what's on offer.

    US band The National will become the first act to headline the festival for a second time when they play on the Saturday night - in what will be their third appearance at Henham Park.
