    Former Ipswich Town and Leicester City player Ian Marshall says he was one of the few people who actually said: "He's got a half decent track record, give the lad a chance", when Leicester appointed Claudio Ranieri as their manager.

    Giving his reaction to Leicester winning the Premier League title, he added: "Well he's certainly gone on to prove me right. I like that."

    He also had encouraging words for Ipswich Town fans, saying: "It's got to give the fans at Ipswich great belief now, it just goes to show you that anything can happen."

    Striker Luke Varney (left) will speak to Ipswich Town in the coming days about a potential new deal with the club.

    The 33-year-old first joined the Blues on loan last season before suffering a serious injury in the play-off semi-final with Norwich. 

    "We looked after him and got him fit, and he's rewarded us with his professionalism, said Town boss Mick McCarthy. "He's just great around the place."

    Mildenhall Town, external are celebrating after winning the Thurlow Nunn League Cup, external, beating Norwich United 2-1 in the final.

    An unlikely win at the home of Diss Town seemed even more unlikely when the Premier Division champions took the lead from the penalty spot.

    But two goals from Dan Brown completed an incredible comeback from the Hall and secured their first silverware since 2011.

  9. Thurston Community College to hold special assemblies following death of pupilpublished at 10:10

    Assemblies are being held this morning at the school attended by 13-year-old Ben Wragge, who died on Sunday as a result of an injury caused by an air pellet.

    "This is a heart-breaking time for Thurston Community College, Thurston Village and our wider community," principal Helen Wilson said.

    "The aftermath of this tragedy will be felt throughout our entire community. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Ben's family and friends at this time."

    The shooting incident which resulted in the death of a 13-year-old boy in Thurston on Sunday, is the "worst incident that's happened" in the village since 1969, says one resident who moved to the area at the time.

    Derrick Haley, a local councillor, added: "The community will pull together. Whatever the outcome is, people will pull together."

    There's expected to be support in place today as pupils return to Thurston Community College after the incident.

  11. Sats 'set up our children to fail' says parentpublished at 09:40

    A national protest over Sats (Standard Attainment Tests) in primary schools is being supported by some Suffolk parents today.

    Min Clough is one of a number of parents taking their children out of Bealings School, near Martlesham, because of concerns that too much pressure is being put on pupils by the government testing policy.

    She says the current level of testing is too high: "They're not being asked to see how they get on, they're being asked to get 100% in these tests and it's setting our children up to fail."

    The county councillor representing Thurston has said she is "concerned for the community", following the death of a teenager in the village on Sunday.

    Penny Otton (Liberal Democrat) said: "I'm concerned for the community in Thurston, and the wider community because obviously there's the school there.

    "These children have possibly gone to the school or they've got friends... Thurston's got a brilliant community spirit and I'm sure they'll all get together."

    A 13-year-old boy who was fatally injured by an airgun pellet was a "mature and intelligent young man", his school says.

    Ben Wragge was fatally wounded in Thurston on Sunday.

    The principal of Thurston Community College, where Ben was a pupil, said he was an "extremely likeable character" with a "calm and respectful demeanour".

  14. Victim of fatal collision in Clare yet to be named by policepublished at 09:10

    A cyclist who died after being hit by a car in Clare on Sunday has yet to be named by police.

    The collision, in which a 44-year-old man from Haverhill was killed, happened about 15:35 on Nethergate Street and involved a blue Citroen Xsara Picasso.

    Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information, to contact them.

    The chairman of Thurston Parish Council, external says the death of a teenage boy following an incident on Sunday has "hit the whole village".

    Police say 13-year-old Ben Wragge died of an injury caused by an air pellet. Two teenagers arrested in connection with the offence have been bailed until June.

    Peter Robinson told us: "Very little happens in the village and I'm sure I can speak for everybody when I say that our thoughts and prayers go out to the families involved in this tragic incident."
