  1. Get some of Ed's cast-offs at the county's newest charity shop published at 11:58 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2017

    If all the hype about the release of Ed Sheeran's latest album, ÷ (Divide) means you can't get enough of the Suffolk superstar, then you might want to make your way to Halesworth.

    The latest charity shop raising funds for East Anglia's Children's Hospices, external is opening, with a selection of his cast-offs among the items on sale.

    Hannah Bloom, from the charity, has this word of warning though, from a previous occasion when Ed donated some clothes: "Once I went and met with Ed's mum Imogen and collected nine bags of clothing which I put into the boot of my car and when I got into the car the smell of men's aftershave and Ed was quite overwhelming.

    "They definitely haven't been washed, they've definitely been worn, and they're definitely things he's been wearing recently as well."

    Although in fairness, when BBC Suffolk reporter Luke Deal did a sniff test on the clothing, he said he couldn't detect anything.

    So you may be enjoying your first listen while you read this, or maybe even your second if you're an uberfan.

    If you're Ed Sheeran's mum (or our colleague Steven) then maybe even your third.

    But if you are Tom Hiddleston, then Divide is old news to you.

    It turns out the actor heard it a year ago. In Rome no-less, where they were "hanging out".

  4. Lowestoft watering hole is 'runner-up' in Pub of the Year contest published at 11:29 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2017

    The Stanford Arms, external in Lowestoft has been named as one of three runners-up in the Pub of the Year contest, run by Camra, the Campaign for Real Ale, external .

    Our reporter Guy Campbell has been tasked to go along and have a chat with the couple who run the hostelry - the things our team has to do in the line of duty.

    The A140 southbound is closed at Stonham Parva, after a collision between a lorry and a motorcyclist.

    Police say there aren't any serious injuries, but the road at the Magpie Pub may be closed for some time while a fuel spillage is cleared up.

    Unless you have been living under a massive soundproofed rock for the past week then you'll already know that the nation's favourite ginger "stadium busker" Ed Sheeran has released his new album today.

    In keeping with Ed's usual mathematical album titles Divide has already spawned the massive hits Shape of You and Castle on the HIll.

    Now here is the one that he's sure will be the wedding song of choice for 2017.

    "It's not like Thinking Out Loud will be the peak of my career.,." he told our reporter Mark Savage. 

    "It's definitely happened on this album. There's definitely one that's better."

  9. Failure to pay stops us investing, says train operatorpublished at 09:40 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2017

    Rail operator Greater Anglia, says ticket prices are having to rise as a result of the number of people who are failing to pay the correct fare. 

    Earlier this week, more than 100 passengers were prosecuted, and found guilty of a range of offences on the regional rail network.

    Juliette Maxam, from Greater Anglia, said: "The trouble is, if people aren't paying for their tickets, that means we're not getting the money from their tickets, and we use that money to invest in the railway to make it better for every passenger. 

    "So, if you don't pay for your ticket, you're not only not allowing us to invest in the railway, but also it ends up with the prices going up for everybody as well."

    Suffolk darts player Peter Wright produced the second highest televised average in history, of 119.50, as he beat Adrian Lewis in the Premier League, external last night.

    The 46-year-old from Mendham won 7-2 to join Phil Taylor at the top of the leaderboard. 

    Taylor drew 6-6 with another former world champion, Gary Anderson. 

    World number one Michael van Gerwen, who didn't play last night because of injury, holds the record for the highest average with 123.40.

  14. Greater Anglia 'should use discretion' over fare dodger prosecutions published at 08:26 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2017

    The Conservative MP for Colchester says discretion should be used by local rail operators as they clamp down on fare dodgers. 

    Earlier this week, more than 100 passengers were prosecuted, and found guilty, of a range of offences on the Greater Anglia network. The company said a "common-sense approach" was used.

    "My concern is around people who do the right thing, but make honest mistakes," said Will Quince MP.

    "I want to make sure all rail operating companies, including GA, are using discretion where appropriate.

    "Where people have paid over £50 to get to and from London in a day, or £5,000 for a season ticket, that they're not penalised for sitting in the wrong seat, or when the train's full they sit in the wrong carriage, or they forget their season ticket."

    After what looks like a promising start, cloud will thicken with persistent and occasionally heavy rain spreading north  through the morning. 

    The rain will hang around the further north you are for much of the afternoon, but further south things will clear.

    A cloudy end to the day for most of us. Highs today of 10C, that's 50F.

    Staying dry this evening with clear spells.

    Overnight temperatures are expected to drop to 3C (37F) early on, but as cloud increases from the west they'll recover to about 7C (45F) by the end of the night.

    There's good news with regards to two of Ipswich Town's loan players, ahead of Saturday's home game against Brentford.

    Tom Lawrence is likely to start against the Bees after completing his two-match ban, while manager Mick McCarthy's been bringing us up to date with midfielder Jonny Williams' progress as he recovers from injury. 

    McCarthy said: "(He) is training but he's not ready yet - he's going to play in the next under-23s game on Monday. 

    "So he's trained for the last couple of days, he's got a smile on his face and is feeling a lot better." 

    So will the 23-year-old be back before Easter with the possibility of first team football before the end of this month?

    "Once he's back and injury free he'll be ready for selection and we all know what a good player he is," replied the manager.
