Describing her husband's condition, Nicole said he's still pretty much the same as when he came home from hospital.

"He can't sit up independently, he can't move himself off the bed or anything so we have to do pretty much everything," she said.

"He's unable to walk, he can't use his hands, he's fed through a tube and all his medication goes through the tube.

"He will say words, but only when prompted."

Simon needs round-the-clock care after the assault, which took place after a fixture between Southend United and his team, Cambridge United.

Thirteen men are due to go on trial next month, charged in connection with the assault.

  12. Sad news as Jeremy the snail is rebuffedpublished at 17:21 British Summer Time 17 May 2017

    Orla Moore
    BBC Local Live

    Jeremy the snail

Remember Jeremy, the lefty snail looking for love?

When the BBC asked for help in finding him a mate, the hope was he'd sire lefty offspring.

Jeremy is very rare because his shell coils to the left (look closely).

At first things looked promising and after a successful appeal by the Today programme, mates were uncovered by a snail enthusiast in Ipswich and a snail farmer in Majorca - and sent off to the University of Nottingham.

But, instead of mating with Jeremy, the two "'lefty' snails decided to mate with each other.

All 170 babies are - you guessed it - right-coiled.

  15. Chet Boat to make splash at Chelseapublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 17 May 2017

    Kevin Burch
    BBC Look East

For months now, a team of experts from Lowestoft has had just one thing in mind - next week's Chelsea Flower Show.

    Chet boat

    But it's not a garden they've been creating, it's a boat.

And it's a replica of the so-called "Chet Boat" found next to the River Chet on the Norfolk Broads four years ago.

The original is medieval and made of oak - with wooden pegs and iron nails.

The work is going on at the International Boatbuilding College in Oulton Broad.

Gary Breeze is the garden's designer and says orginally the boat would have been used for carrying reeds, eeling, sailing or punting by one person.

"What you'll see at the garden is this medieval Chet boat surrounded by natural plants from that period which are still found on the Broads and a lot of them are very rare."

There's more on this story on BBC Look East tonight at 18:30.

    Brenner Woolley
    BBC Radio Suffolk sport

Needham Market's, external new manager is an improvement on the old one.

That's the opinion of now-former-boss Mark Morsley (pictured) who has been singing the praises of his successor Richard Wilkins.

    Mark Morsley

"Yes he is (better than me)," Morsley told BBC Suffolk Sport. "You could study the successes and failures and maybe I've got the edge from that point of view, but it's not just about that.

"Richard is an immaculate person in terms of how he conducts himself. I've worked with him for a year (as my asssistant), I know how good he is, he's popular with the players, he knows the game, he was a professional himself."

    Connor MountainImage source, Stephen Waller

Mountain, who'll line up for the Witches at home to Sheffield tonight, has struggled to make an impact this season, after recovering from a broken vertebrae.

"Ritchie (Hawkins, team manager) and Chris (Louis, director) believe in him and I've seen him perform well in the past so I know he can do it," said Schlein.

"It'll be one race, four laps, of him screwing things wide open and the world will be lifted off of his shoulders.

"I've been trying to tell him that, he's just got to power through it, when you get to that wall of fear you've just got to punch through it. It will happen."

  20. Police describe Corrie Mckeague landfill search as 'so unusual'published at 16:09 British Summer Time 17 May 2017

    Orla Moore
    BBC Local Live

    corrie mckeague

The search for missing airman Corrie Mckeague will continue for at least another three weeks, police say.

Corrie disappeared after a night out with pals in Bury St Edmunds eight months ago.

A discrepancy in the bin lorry weight has led investigators to conclude that he may have climbed into one for shelter.

Officers have pinpointed rubbish dating from around the time Corrie went missing - and from the Bury St Edmunds area.

In a statement, Suffolk Police described the operation as "so unusual" and said officers had gained "a greater understanding of both how the waste is deposited and spread out, and the nature and construction of the site."
