  2. Appeal for CCTV footage of Kessingland 'bleed on the brain' muggingpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    Police say they'd like to hear from anyone who either has private CCTV equipment along London Road in Kessingland, or anyone who drove along the road just after midnight in the early hours of Sunday morning, when a woman was found by a passing motorist after falling following a robbery.

    The woman, in her 60s, was walking home from a social event at Pontins when she was approached from behind by someone who tried to steal her handbag.

    Det Insp Matt Adams said it was an extremely serious incident: "Who knows what would have happened if the motorist hadn't come along and seen the lady laying in the road?

    "They stopped, were able to give her first aid and call an ambulance."

    The woman remains at the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston where her condition is described as stable.

    Police say she has a bleed on her brain, but she is conscious and talking.

  4. Police increasingly concerned for missing 'vulnerable' teenagerpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    Police are becoming increasingly concerned about an 18-year-old from Bury St Edmunds who went missing on Saturday afternoon.

    Harry Mills is believed to have left the Hardwick Lane area of the town at about 16:00 and was taken by a friend to Cambridge. He has not been seen since.

    It is believed he made his way to the Islington area of north London, but could have travelled further afield.

    Police say he is considered vulnerable, and they and his family are concerned for his welfare.

  5. Hospice launches 'Don't let death kill life' campaignpublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    St Elizabeth Hospice, external in Ipswich has launched a campaign encouraging people to talk about death, in order to enhance life.

    The hospice has come up with an "ambition" statement - "Don't Let Death Kill Life" - alongside a manifesto which states: "Death is a reality, but it is not always a tragedy".

    Mark Millar, chief executive of the hospice, said: "This is about not letting the prospect of death bring a shadow across your life and making the most of your life.

    "This is about people facing the end of their life and sharing it with their loved ones in the way that is most helpful.

    "We believe we have a part to play in that, but it’s not about us it’s about people."

  6. Psychiatric reports ordered on man accused of murderpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    A man charged with a murder in Bury St Edmunds will have a mental health assessment before he's allowed to enter a plea in court.

    Mourad Belarbi, 43, of Lake Avenue in the town, appeared via video link at Ipswich Crown Court accused of fatally stabbing Geoffrey Caton, 57, at his home in Cumberland Avenue in July.

    Psychiatric reports will be presented to a judge before Christmas.

    A trial could start as early as January.

  7. Four arrested on suspicion of hare coursing near Ipswichpublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    Four people from Surrey have been arrested on suspicion of hare coursing after a police pursuit on rural rounds around Copdock near Ipswich on Sunday.

    Police were called to reports of hare coursing in fields off the A12 between Capel St Mary and Copdock yesterday afternoon.

    Officers got there and ended up chasing one car, which crashed into another vehicle.

    The people inside ran away, but were arrested.

    The three men and one teenager were questioned on suspicion of hare coursing and driving offences, and have been released under investigation.

    Bury St Edmunds, external went down to a narrow 12-9 defeat at Redruth in National League Two South, external on Saturday.

    It was the Wolfpack's first defeat since the opening day of the season, after a run of four successive victories.

    All of the visitors' points came from the boots of Liam McBride and Fraser Honey.

    Bury return to action on 14 October, at home to high-scoring league leaders Taunton Titans.

  10. F-22 Raptors fly in to Lakenheathpublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    The United States Air Force has deployed F-22 Raptors, airmen and associated equipment to RAF Lakenheath for a flying training deployment to conduct air training with other Europe-based US aircraft and NATO allies.

    The aircraft, from Virginia, arrived on Sunday.

  11. Armed man arrested in Ipswichpublished at 10:40 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    Armed police were called to Norwich Road in Ipswich just after midnight after reports of a man with a hand gun in the middle of the street.

    A man armed with a knife was later arrested.

    Officers searched a nearby home, and seized imitation firearms.

    Mildenhall Fen Tigers, external staged a remarkable comeback to seal a thrilling victory in the National Trophy, external Final yesterday.

    Trailing Plymouth Devils by 18 points after the first leg, the Suffolk side beat them 54-36 at West Row to force a race-off, in which Mildenhall skipper Jon Armstrong (pictured) beat Josh Bailey.

    "This was a wonderful day for the club and yet again we have seen some incredible speedway at Mildenhall," said chairman Kevin Jolly.

    "What can you say about Armo? He truly was 'Captain Fantastic' today, leading both on and off the track, as he does.

    "When riding like he did today he is the true master of our track."

    Mildenhall Town, external drew 2-2 with Hertford Town in the North Division.

    In the FA Trophy preliminary round Bury Town, external won 5-3 at Ramsgate, while it finished AFC Sudbury, external 2-2 Aylesbury United.

  15. Woman in hospital after Kessingland robberypublished at 08:26 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    A woman is in a stable condition in hospital, after she was robbed in the street in Kessingland just after midnight in the early hours of Sunday.

    The victim, who's in her 60s, was walking home along London Road when someone grabbed and stole her handbag.

    During the incident she stumbled and fell into the road and hit her head. A short while later, she was found in the road by a motorist who stopped to help her.

    She was taken to the James Paget Hospital with a serious head injury.

  16. Three arrested following incident at Felixstowe Pierpublished at 08:14 British Summer Time 9 October 2017

    Emergency services were called to Felixstowe Pier in the early hours of this morning.

    Paramedics, firefighters, the police and the coastguard were called out at about 03:30 to concerns for the safety of a man.

    He's been taken to Ipswich Hospital.

    Three people have also been arrested.
