Passenger Services Director at Southern rail, Alex Foulds, spoke to BBC South East ahead of the expected strike action.

Morning commuters have started to arrive at Brighton railway station.

BBC Sussex reporter Simon Jenkins, who took this picture, says: "Passengers at Brighton station ahead of the guards strike @SouthernRailUK, external which begins at 11am. Quiet this morning."

BBC South East reporter Ali Fortescue is at Three Bridges railway station.

She says: "A lot of those passengers I've spoken to this morning are fairly disgruntled. 

"They say they've had to get up hours earlier than usual to try to get to London on time."

Commuters in Sussex are being warned to expect major disruption as conductors on Southern trains stage the first of three 24-hour strikes. 

RMT union members are expected to walk out at 11:00 BST in a dispute over driver-only trains. Southern say there will be a limited service from about 07:30 BST.
