The news will be a huge boost for Chris Hughton. Bruno, 36, has been an ever-present in the league side so far this campaign and started every game last season.

The Spaniard has helped the Seagulls to eight clean sheets.

There will be a 170m extension to the existing Environment Agency rock armour along the beach frontage, which will offer greater stability for the beach which in turn will reduce erosion.

Four years ago £17m was spent securing coastal protection at West Sands, building two L-shaped offshore rock breakwaters at either end of their beach frontage.

The National Farmers Union is urging the government to introduce a Seasonal Agricultural Workers scheme. The change would mean farmers could recruit from outside Europe.

  12. Some trains cancelled, others reinstated: News from our Transport Correspondentpublished at 15:16 British Summer Time 20 October 2016

    Paul Clifton
    Transport correspondent, BBC South Today

Gatwick Express will cancel services until mid December because of leaves on the line.

Parent company Govia Thameslink Railway says it will stop 33 trains a day. Although it is normal for trains in the area to be affected by slippery rails, it is highly unusual for services to be cancelled just in case there are problems.

The company says it is being done to allow other services to operate more reliably on a line that is close to maximum capacity.

Meanwhile Southern railway says the last services suspended under an emergency timetable last July will finally return at the end of this month. It had previously been cancelling at least 340 trains a day.

Services between Southampton and Brighton will be the last ones to be brought back. This means Southern Railway has recruited sufficient staff to operate the full timetable.
