    Bob Dale
    BBC Live reporter

BBC South East understands the army's been asked to put contingency plans in place to ensure commuters get to work if problems continue on Southern Rail.

We've learned military leave could be cancelled and soldiers instructed to drive buses carrying passengers.

It's likely to be welcomed by one MP who told us earlier that without this action her constituents would be stranded in the New Year.

  7. Mental health trust 'still has more to do'published at 06:12 Greenwich Mean Time 23 December 2016

    Stuart Maisner
    BBC Live reporter

A Sussex mental health trust, which was criticised in a review of 10 killings over eight years, has improved but still has more to do, according to a new report.

Inspectors at the Care Quality Commission said although services at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust were 'Good' for being caring and responsive, there needed to be improvements in managing medicines, completing and updating risk assessments and staff training.

It comes after the Trust was criticised in an independent review earlier this year, which concluded it severely underestimated the threat posed by some of its patients.

Matthew Daley, 35, stabbed Donald Lock 39 times on the A24 in Findon, after the 79-year-old ran into the back of his vehicle.

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust apologised for its role.
