Family statement
The Tories have made gains in East Sussex, winning control of the county council, while maintaining their hold on West Sussex in local elections.
UKIP's support has collapsed, with its presence on both councils wiped out, mirroring the nationwide trend.
Its group leader in East Sussex Philip Howson said: "People think Brexit is finished but it's not."
The Conservatives swept to victory, winning 11 new seats in the West of the county and eight more in the East.

Hastings artist Danny Pockets was given just six months to live after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
He's now in remission.
Throughout his illness he kept working, and planning for an art exhibition.
A man has died after falling from Eastbourne Pier.
Emergency services were called to the pier in Grand Parade just after 12:00 BST today after getting reports that a man had fallen into the sea.
The man was pulled from the water but died at the scene.
The coroner has been informed.
