  2. Road calming plans for Heathfieldpublished at 21:45 British Summer Time 12 June 2017

    People in Heathfield are being asked for their views on plans for a traffic calming scheme aimed at cutting vehicle speed and improving safety.

    East Sussex Highways has launched a consultation on the plan for Ghyll Road, which would complement an existing scheme in the neighbouring Tilsmore area.

    It would see speed cushions installed at regular intervals, a raised junction at the intersection of Ghyll Road and Geers Wood, upgraded street lights and new signage.

    The scheme would cost around £150,000, to be funded by money set aside by East Sussex County Council for local transport improvements.

    A school in Brighton has launched an appeal to help fund a state-of-the-art sports centre.

    Patcham High School, which was attended by TV star Katie Price, wants to build a sports hall, 4G football pitch and netball centre at a cost of £4m.

    Katie Price said in a statement: "I loved my sport when I was at Patcham. Running was my big thing and I was really proud to represent the school. As a mum I know how important physical exercise is for kids and I reckon the kids at Patcham High deserve the best facilities they can get.

    "I still have friends who live in and around Patcham and I think the new sports hall and the all-weather pitches will be brilliant for them and their families and anyone else in the area who's into sport."

    Crawley Town Hall is to be demolished, as part of the continuing redevelopment of the town centre.

    The building will be knocked down, along with a two-storey car park, to be replaced with 250 properties, including 100 affordable homes, and a new town hall.

    This will include five floors of commercial offices, a new public square and improvements to the town hall multi-storey car park.

    The Association of British Commuters says Transport Secretary Chris Grayling is being "rewarded for failure" by being allowed to keep his job in the cabinet reshuffle.

    It follows widespread disruption and a year-long strike on Southern Rail, over the introduction of Driver Only Operated trains.

    Two men have been stabbed during an incident in central Brighton.

    The incident happened at 16:30 BST outside a sports store on Western Road.

    The victims have been taken to hospital with puncture wounds.

    Five men have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and are currently in custody.

    A knife has been recovered at the scene.

    The incident is not terrorism-related and the investigation is ongoing.

    A senior South East Conservative MP is defending the decision to keep Chris Grayling as Secretary of State for Transport.

    Many commuters are angry at Mr Grayling for not intervening directly to try to end the Southern Rail dispute, which began in April 2016.

    But Reigate's Crispin Blunt is backing him.

    Southern Rail passengers say they're disappointed that Chris Grayling's kept his job as Secretary of State for Transport.

    Passengers have faced widespread disruption and more than a year of strike action over Driver Only Operated trains.

    Mr Grayling's faced criticism for refusing to intervene directly to help bring an end to the dispute.

    Workers at car giant BMW have voted to reject an offer aimed at resolving a long-running dispute over pensions.

    Unite union members based at plants in Cowley, Goodwood, near Chichester, Hams Hall in the West Midlands and Swindon, turned down the offer by 56.6%.

    Workers have already staged four walkouts during the dispute, which is over the closure of a final-salary pension scheme.

    BMW said the offer was "fair" and it was disappointed at the ballot result.
