    Police are appealing for witnesses after a number of Tag Heuer watches were stolen from Gold Arts Jewellers in Chichester.

    It happened on Sunday (1 October) at around 22:00 BST.

    Police have received reports that four men on motorbikes were spotted driving away from the scene.

    Anyone with information should contact Sussex Police online, external or call 101 quoting reference 1235 of 01/10.

    The coroner in charge of the inquest into the deaths of 11 men at the Shoreham Airshow in 2015 says police have provided an update into the investigation.

    A Hawker Hunter jet crashed during a display, killing the men, who were all from Sussex.

    No details are being given of how the investigation is progressing, but West Sussex Senior Coroner Penelope Schofield is due to hold a third pre-inquest review on 24 January.

    The full inquest is scheduled for September 2018, although that may be suspended if the Crown Prosecution Service decides to bring criminal charges.

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an incident in Maidstone.

    Police were called to Heath Road in Barming at 19:20 BST last night after reports of a man being injured.

    A knife was seized.

    The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are not believed to be life-threatening.

    The 51-year-old man who has been arrested is being treated in hospital for injuries, which are not serious.

    He remains in custody.

    Rail travellers across the South East are facing the prospect of strike action today on Southern services.

    RMT union members at Southern are walking out today and Thursday (5 October).

    Southern said it would attempt to run a normal service on most of its routes and says it is currently running a 'good service' on all lines.

  13. Woman dies in crashpublished at 08:13 British Summer Time 3 October 2017

    A 90-year-old woman died after a crash near Heathfield yesterday.

    The woman, who was from the Hailsham area, was a passenger in a red Vauxhall Tigra which crashed off the C16 Marklye Lane in Rushlake Green between 12:00 BST and 13:15 BST.

    The driver, an 88-year-old man also from the Hailsham area, suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

    The Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance attended and the road was closed with diversions in place until 18:00 BST.

    Conservative-controlled East Sussex County Council has warned of "real hardship" if the needs of its residents are not taken into account by the government.

    It has launched an online video campaign seeking more government funding.

    "Stand Up For East Sussex" asks residents to sign a petition to the Prime Minister demanding an urgent intervention over public services.

    Savings of £112m have been made from services in East Sussex since 2010, but another £58m of cuts are expected in the next four years under current plans.

    Researchers in Brighton are planning to launch a sea swimming course for patients experiencing mental health issues.

    They believe putting the body through such stress helps reduce inflammation, which is closely related to mental health.

    If they can agree funding, the trial will get underway next summer.

  20. Monarch rescue flights 'to cost £60m'published at 06:04 British Summer Time 3 October 2017

    Flights returning 110,000 passengers from overseas after Monarch's collapse will cost about £60m, according to the UK airline regulator.

    More than 11,000 were scheduled to have been flown home by Monday night, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said.

    The government called it the biggest repatriation exercise in peacetime.

    Monarch Airlines ceased trading early on Monday, leading to nearly 1,900 job losses and the cancellation of all its flights and holidays.

    The collapse of the 50-year old company is the largest ever for a UK airline.
