  3. South Western Railway to run 75% of trains during New Year's Eve RMT strikespublished at 16:25 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2017

    South Western Railway will run 75% of its trains during New Year's Eve RMT strikes

    During the previous strike it managed 60%, so this will be an increase.

    It will include services from Salisbury to Exeter, which did not run last time.

    There will be no trains between Southampton and Salisbury, nor on the line through Camberley, or on the Isle of Wight.

    Continuing Network Rail engineering work means there were already no trains between Southampton Central and Eastleigh or between Southampton Central and Fareham.

    Shuttle services will run between Southampton and Poole, with buses replacing trains from Poole to Weymouth.

  4. Man arrested after Dover assaultpublished at 15:21 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2017

    A man has been arrested after another man was attacked in Dover on Christmas Day.

    The assault happened just after 14:00 GMT on Monday in an area near Oswald Road, Kent Police said.

    Officers discovered a man with a serious stab-like wound to his abdomen.

    He was taken to a London hospital for treatment where he remains in a stable condition.

    A 45-year-old man, of no fixed address, remains in custody.

  5. Man's body found near railway stationpublished at 11:21 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2017

    The body of an elderly man has been found near Sevenoaks railway station.

    It was discovered by a member of the public on a bank near the station, in the Clarendon Road area, at about 11:25 GMT on Boxing Day.

    The body has not yet been formally identified, but Kent Police said the family of missing person Ken Henson had been informed.

    Mr Henson, 80, from Sevenoaks, was last seen on the evening of 25 May.

    The death is not currently being treated as suspicious.

  6. Man held at Ebbsfleet Utd match over alleged racismpublished at 09:13 Greenwich Mean Time 28 December 2017

    A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence following an incident at a Boxing Day football match at Ebbsfleet United.

    Kent Police said officers at the Stonebridge Road ground for the game against Bromley were made aware of alleged racist comments directed towards one of the home team's players.

    The man, from the Biggin Hill area, was later released without charge.

    Glyn Rouse was stabbed to death outside Cherry Lane adventure playground

    The family of a 61-year-old man who died after being attacked in Crawley has paid tribute to him.

    Glyn Rouse was stabbed outside a children's playground on 28 November.

    In a statement the family said Mr Rouse was a talented man whose music "brightened and improved a lot of people's lives".

    After Glyn's untimely death it has been discovered that he did indeed have a large group of friends in and around the Crawley area, and the family realised that all his friends are also connected to Glyn's hobbies as in music and art, and they all share our grief in the sudden and tragic loss of our beloved Glyn.

    Family statement

    Vladimir Ivanov is in police custody charged with murder.

    The 22-year-old from Juniper Road is due in court in February.

  10. Police seek dashcam footage of off-road bikepublished at 16:09 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2017

    Dashcam footage of an off-road moped in Brighton is being sought by Sussex Police.

    Two people were seen riding an off-road bike on Warren Road at about 18:20 GMT on 22 December.

    Officers said the two riders did not have helmets and the bike had no lights.

    They tried to stop the moped on Wilson Road before it swerved on to grass where both people got off and ran away.

    A 17-year-old from Brighton has been arrested on suspicion of taking a vehicle without consent and driving dangerously.

    A 15-year-old boy, also from Brighton, was released without charge.

    Six people, including two teenage boys, have been arrested after a man was stabbed in Eastbourne town centre.

    The 22-year-old was with friends in Langney Road when he was stabbed in the arm in the early hours of Saturday.

    The wound was stitched at Eastbourne District General Hospital.

    Two 14-year-olds, an 18-year-old man, two men aged 20 and another aged 26, all from Eastbourne, were arrested and have been released under investigation.

    Sussex Police want to hear from witnesses.

    A 67-year-old man is in hospital after being attacked in Littlehampton on Christmas Eve.

    Sussex Police said the man was approached by two other men outside the Coco Lounge on Clifton Road.

    He was punched several times in the head.

    Det Con Pete Parkinson said: "The victim has extensive swelling to his face and head and remains in hospital with a bleed on the brain.

    "We are appealing to anyone who was in Littlehampton on Christmas Eve and may be able to help."

    The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for the two counties until 11:00 GMT.

    There are also flood alerts in West Sussex and Surrey, mainly around Gatwick, Ifield and the River Mole.

    Three brown bears have been freed after a life of cruelty and neglect in Armenia.

    It's part of a campaign by a Sussex animal charity to free bears from small cages.
