The runway may have reopened, but passengers are being advised to check with their airlines before travelling to Gatwick. Here's what some of them are saying this morning:

    • Easyjet said: "We do expect that the number of departures and landings will be restricted to begin with, which means that we are likely to experience more disruption to the flying programme. We would like to request our passengers to continue to check the status of their flight on the easyJet flight tracker."
    • British Airways said: "Like most airlines at London Gatwick airport, we expect to see some continued disruption to flights today. Our airport teams are working to minimise the disruption for our customers at what we know is a very important time of year." The airline said it was offering customers due to travel today "a range of rebook and refund options" and asked people to check their booking online for the latest information.
    • Ryanair said: "Due to ongoing issues at London Gatwick Airport, flights scheduled to/from London Gatwick on 21 December will instead operate to/from London Stansted. All customers have been notified by the Ryanair customer care team."
    • Virgin Atlantic also asked passengers to check the status of their flight before travelling to Gatwick - advising them not to go there if their flight had been cancelled.
    • Tui said: "Due to the closure of Gatwick Airport following the drone activity, departure times for Tui Airways flights are currently being disrupted. We are doing everything we can to minimise the disruption and thank you in advance for your understanding. For any customers on a TUI holiday flying with a non TUI airline, please contact the airline you are due to travel with for any updates."

Gatwick Airport remains closed as police and the Army continue to search for the operator of a drone that caused hundreds of flights to be cancelled on Wednesday and Thursday.

With thousands of passengers still stranded at the airport, those due to travel on Friday should check with their airline before leaving home, Gatwick bosses say.
