  1. Pool revamp to benefit from art auctionpublished at 08:39

    Campaigners who want to restore an abandoned seaside swimming pool to its former glory are selling artwork inspired by the attraction.

    Tynemouth Pool, filled daily with seawater with the passing of the tides, was once a popular visitor attraction but has lain derelict since the 1990s.

    The art exhibition has opened at the Old Low Lights Heritage Centre in North Shields to raise money for the pool.They'll be auctioned on 26 November.

  2. £13bn sale of Northern Rock mortgagespublished at 08:27

    The government has sold £13bn of former Newcastle-based lender Northern Rock mortgages that taxpayers acquired during the financial crisis.

    The portfolio is being sold by UK Asset Resolution (UKAR) to US investment firm Cerberus. The deal is thought to be the largest financial asset sale to date by a European government.

    UKAR was the "bad bank" set up in 2010 to run down loans made by Northern Rock and Bradford & Bingley. The mortgages are being sold for £280m above their book value.

    The government has now sold more than 85% of the assets of Northern Rock, which collapsed in 2007 and marked the start of the financial crisis.

  4. Travel: Debris and burst water main closes roadspublished at 08:07

    The A189 in Dudley is closed northbound between the Great Lime Road junction and the A1056 Killingworth Way junction because of debris on the road. A diversion is in operation via Great Lime Road.  

    Market Lane in Dunston is closed in both directions between the B6317 junction and the Clavering Road junction because of a burst water main and emergency repairs. Police are directing traffic.

    And the A1046 Haverton Hill Road in Portrack is closed and there's queuing traffic in both directions between Portrack Interchange and the New Road junction because of protest. Diversion in operation - via New Road. Police are again directing traffic.
