    The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is to investigate allegations of victimisation and discrimination in Cleveland Police.

    PC Nadeem Saddique alleged he was forced out of the force's firearms unit and resented by colleagues due to his race.

    An employment tribunal in November concluded the majority of his claims "were well founded". 

    The IPCC said it was now investigating the "serious concerns" raised.

  2. Motorist dies in head-on collision in Durhampublished at 13:46 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2016

    A motorist has been killed in a head-on crash in County Durham.

    The 36-year-old, from West Cornforth, was driving a Peugeot 206 which was involved in a collision with a VW Polo on the A688 West Auckland bypass.

    The driver of the other vehicle, an 18-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with back and neck injuries.

    A Hartlepool man who lived in Brussels is still missing after yesterday's bomb attacks. 

    David Dixon - who works in IT - hasn't been in touch with his girlfriend since he left for work. 

    His partner has been carrying a "heartbreaking" tour of the city's hospitals in the hope of finding him. 

    He's thought to have been on the metro when a bomb exploded yesterday. Phillip Dixon is David's cousin:

    At Prime Minister's Questions, Home Secretary Theresa May said the government is concerned about one missing British person following the Brussels bomb attacks.

    He is thought to be Hartlepool IT programmer David Dixon.

    The mother of former Newcastle United star Jonas Gutierrez  says he was "thrown out like a bad dog" following his cancer diagnosis. 

    In evidence supporting the Argentine international's disability discrimination claim, Monica Montore said she was so upset with the club's bosses she wanted to leave them a suicide note.

    Gutierrez is reported to be seeking £2m in compensation after alleging that Newcastle "ensured" he did not start in enough matches to trigger an automatic extension clause in his contract.

    The 32-year-old further claims that Newcastle told him his future lay elsewhere and viewed him as a "liability" after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer in October 2013.

    Simon Hartley-Jones says he hopes Hartlepool man David Dixon, who is missing in Brussels after the bomb attacks, is "somewhere and being cared for but people can't identify who he is".

    Brussels airport will remain closed tomorrow, its chief executive has said. 

    "There will be no passenger flights into and out of Brussels airport tomorrow (24 March)," Arnaud Feist said.

    More now from the friend of missing man David Dixon, who is originally from Hartlepool.

    Simon Hartley-Jones said he, his partner Charlotte Sutcliffe and their seven-year-old son were due back to their home in Nottingham this weekend to spend Easter here.

    "It’s horrifying. Everyone must be utterly horrified about what’s happened and I’m sure Charlotte would be too but we need to work together as humans and support each other and that’s what we should be doing," he said.

    "He’s a lovely guy - he's an amazing man, who deeply loves his son and we all want to find him."

    The cousin of David Dixon, the Hartlepool man who's missing in Brussels, says he's "fearing the worst".

    David's partner Charlotte Sutcliffe is searching for him after he failed to turn up to work following yesterday's bombing attacks on tan airport and metro.

    David's cousin Phillip Dixon says: "As far as I'm aware it was just a normal working day.

    "He takes the metro to work and unfortunately it's looking like he could have been on this metro train at the time of this bombing yesterday.

    "Charlotte tried phoning his work and he didn't turn in for work yesterday morning, so we're fearing the worst at the moment."

  10. Downing Street 'concerned' over missing Hartlepool man in Brusselspublished at 11:30 Greenwich Mean Time 23 March 2016

    Downing Street is "concerned" about a man from Hartlepool who is missing following the Brussels bombing attacks.

    Family and friends of missing David Dixon have appealed for information on social media after he failed to turn up for work following the attacks and has not been heard of since. 

    The IT programmer, who lives in Brussels but is originally from Hartlepool, was travelling to work but did not arrive at his office. 

    A No 10 spokesman said: "We are concerned about one missing British national and we are in close contact with the Belgian authorities. 

    "We are aware of four British nationals who were injured in the attacks - three are being treated in hospital, one has already been discharged. Our embassy staff are working to assist all British nationals affected."

  12. Ancient Viking artefacts missing from Darlington churchpublished at 10:57

    Three medieval sculptured stones which have gone missing from the remains of a church on the outskirts of Darlington may have been stolen, police say.

    All Saints Church in Sockburn contains a rare collection of late 9th and 10th Century Viking sculptured stone.

    Many of these were collected in the 19th Century by landowner Sir Edward Buckley, who had part of the ruined church reconstructed and re-roofed specifically “for the reception and preservation of the ancient stones lying among the ruins”.

    The church noticed they were gone last week, but it’s thought they could have gone missing at any point since September last year.

    Police have made a further arrest after a 15-year-old boy was hit by a pellet from an air weapon over the weekend, leaving him with "significant injuries".

    It happened near to Herrington Burn in Houghton on Saturday, and two 16-year-old boys have now been arrested.

    Police say it "really was a nasty incident".
