Shane Tunney "called an emergency number" but hung up before he was attacked, Teesside Crown Court heard.

The 24 year-old had been at a cash machine with his friend, Anthony Kirk, when they became aware of people on the roof of an adjoining Tesco store.

CCTV images played to the jury showed them being pelted with waste food the group above had taken from the bins of the shop.

Annoyed at the youths' behaviour, Mr Tunney made a half-hearted effort to climb on to the roof and then called an emergency number but, thinking better of it, hung up before speaking to the police.

Soon after, they were confronted by the same group.

Two teenagers have been found guilty of his murder, and a further five of manslaughter.
