    Durham 197 v Worcestershire 323-7- tea

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

Despite the weather forecast suggesting Armageddon we began on time in Chester-le-Street and have not lost an over so far. And that has seen Worcestershire move into a position of comfort as they lead by 126 runs at 323-7.

Brett D'Oliveira made 122 in a partnership of 130 for the fifth wicket with Moeen Ali, but departed in a rather bizarre over from Ryan Pringle, who went on to take three wickets for just six runs in a spell of 5.2 overs.

D'Oliveira hit a Pringle no-ball for six in his first over back, which was eight runs. Another full toss went over the ropes as well before a third was slapped straight to Graham Clark at short mid-wicket.

Moeen was on 58 when he tried to sweep Pringle in his next over from the Lumley End and went lbw, while George Rhodes edged him behind on three a couple of overs later.

Worcestershire got bogged down at that point before Ben Cox and Ross Whiteley managed to get going again and at the break their partnership is worth 51.

  18. Jimmy Prout killer was 'evil, vindictive, manipulative and devious man'published at 13:48 British Summer Time 27 June 2017

A judge described the leader of a gang who tortured Jimmy Prout as "an evil, vindictive, manipulative and devious man".

Ringleader Zahid Zaman, 43, was told he must serve a minimum term of 33 years after he was convicted of murder.

Jailing him at Newcastle Crown Court, Mr Justice Dove accused him scouring the internet and local soup kitchens to find vulnerable people he could control, before coming across Mr Prout and making him his lackey.

Zaman was jailed along with three others involved in Mr Prout's death.

The judge said words could not to do justice to the brutality Mr Prout endured or how they all had betrayed him, saying "what he suffered was beyond imagining".

He said the case involved the "sadistic torture of a vulnerable victim" which was "designed to inflict excruciating pain" and "monstrous violence".

Jimmy Prout's brother Eddie spoke about the impact of his brother's death as four people were sentenced.

When the four were found guilty earlier this month Mr Prout, (pictured), said what had been done to his brother "you wouldn't have seen in the worst horror films".

Speaking today he said: "I buried my brother Jimmy on my birthday last year and it was one of the hardest things I've had to do. My brother was my best pal and by killing Jimmy, they have killed part of me.

"The officers in the case have been great and I would like to thank them for everything. Now it is time for us to fully grieve in peace and move on with our lives."
