  12. Local Elections 2018: Round-up of North East resultspublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 4 May 2018

    Mark Denten
    BBC Look North

Local elections in much of the region have given something for all the parties to cheer, if not exactly enough to crack open the champagne.

Despite individual seats changing hands, no council switched political control.

All the main parties say they're focused on the future with a raft of new councillors elected in their early 20s.

Here is a round-up of the results:

    • In Newcastle, Labour won 56 seats, up two, the Liberal Democrats secured 19, down one, with independent candidates winning three, also down one. It is now 22 years since the Conservatives last had a Newcastle councillor.
    • Labour remained in control of Sunderland Council, although it lost a small number of seats. The Liberal Democrats, which had been hoping to make gains, took three seats from the party, while the Conservatives took two. Labour did win the Copt Hill ward from an independent for a net loss of four seats.
    • On South Tyneside, Labour holds all the seats apart from one where an an independent candidate lost to a Conservative.
    • Labour has held on to Gateshead Council after votes on 23 seats out of 66, losing one ward to the Lib Dems and gaining one from them.
    • North Tyneside Council also remained under Labour control, but with some movement. Overall Labour gained two seats, the Tories lost one, and the Lib Dems lost one.
    • Labour retained its hold on Hartlepool Borough Council. A Putting Hartlepool First candidate gained one seat from UKIP, which did not contest the election and now has no presence on the council. There was no change for other Independents or Conservatives, and Labour, which has been in power since 2010, continues to hold 19 seats.

Peter Blythe is disabled and on benefits and has had to freeze his bills since the problems began. Customers have been locked out of their online banking and their mobile phone app since the bank attempted a system upgrade two weeks ago.

Mr Blythe says he still doesn't have access to his accounts.

"It bounces you back to put the password in again, and again, and again.

"I have been waiting on the phone for three-and-a-half hours at the longest point. I actually got through to them this morning but I still need to go to the branch in Newcastle to get my internet banking reset."

TSB's apologised to Mr Blythe and says it's been in touch with him to see how it can help.

The bank says no customer will lose any money over the issues.
