The A66 between Bowes and Brough has been closed due to heavy snow which has fallen across large parts of the region.
Durham Police said the snow gates have been closed in both directions and drivers are urged to avoid the area, external.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for snow, external for the whole North East which will be in force until Wednesday night.
