In 2021 David Bedingham became the first Durham player to make 300 runs in a game. That was in a draw against Derbyshire in Chester-le-Street.
Today he was threatening to do that in one innings against Lancashire, but was out on 279. It is the highest score by a Durham player. It beats Martin Love's 273 in a win against Hants in 2003.
Durham could have declared earlier but I think they were waiting to see if Bedingham could reach the 300 and when he didn't they came off.
He also put on 425 for the fifth wicket with Colin Ackermann, who was eventually out for 186. That was the highest total for any wicket by Durham and the second highest stand in the County Championship for a fifth wicket.
Ironically that title is held by Colin Ackermann, who put on 477* with Wiaan Mulder at Hove in 2022.
The pitch has flattened out, but can Durham bowl a team out twice, with a Kookaburra ball, for the first time?
