Durham 109-2 in second innings (trail Surrey by 60)

Ben McKinney struggled to cope with the left-arm spin of Sai Kishore and ended up throwing his wicket away in an attempt to try and take him on.

He'd tried - and failed - on numerous occasions to play forward defensive shots to Kishore, missing the spin regularly. It was a similar result each time he tried to cut him.

Then came an attempted slog-sweep from the 20-year-old opener, which also ended up in the keeper's hands.

And moments after team-mate Emilio Gay gestured to him to calm down, McKinney got himself out. He hit Kishore straight to Dan Lawrence at long-on and he took a low catch on the bouncdary to dimiss him for 24.

It ended a partnership with Gay of 73. Gay Now has 61.

His three previous 50s this year have all been turned into centuries. How Durham need more of that today!

    Durham 153 v Surrey 46-3

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham were out for 153 earlier today, after deciding to bat. Given their relegation predicament I asked where their fighting spirit was?

Well, we are seeing some of what's needed now. Surrey have not found the going easy at all and are struggling at 45-3. They were 27-3, having lost Rory Burns for two, Dom Sibley for 12 and Sam Curran for four.

Matty Potts got Burns lbw, while Sibley edged Ben Raine to the keeper. Curran was then caught in the slips off his bowling.

I don't think this is a minefield of a track, but it is slower than usual and maybe the fact the ball is not coming onto the bat as truly as it should be is the main issue. We'll see how things pan out.

But it has been a good start with the ball for the hosts.

Durham 153 v Surrey - tea, day one

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

If the Durham players did not think they were in a relegation scrap going into this game, they certainly need to think they are now.

They were bowled out on a really poor track, at Taunton last week, for just 145. Surrey bowled them out today for 153 and they can't blame the pitch for this one.

The self belief appears to have drained away.

Surrey bowled well and kept it tight. Dan Worrall took 4-31 and Sam Curran 3-22, but shot selection left many questions.

The task facing them now is immense. They struggle to bowl teams out as a rule anyway, but find it a lot more difficult with a Kookaburra ball. This could be a really significant week in terms of where these two sides are going to end up come late September.
