    A pop-up Covid vaccination clinic has opened in Newcastle's Grainger Market.

    People can have a first, second or booster dose of the vaccine and anyone aged 16 or over is able to attend.

    Newcastle's deputy director of public health, Lorna Smith, said: "People are quite shocked to see it in the market, realising they can get a vaccine without waiting or needing to make an appointment.

    "They are doing their shopping and happy they can have a vaccine at the same time."

    From December, the pop-up clinic will open on Saturdays offering Covid vaccines for children aged between 12 and 15 who missed out on the schools vaccine programme.

    A 12-year-old boy is in hospital after being hit by a van in Hartlepool.

    He suffered a serious head injury and a broken leg after being hit in Easington Road, near to Miller Crescent, on Saturday.

    The crash happened at about 17:20 GMT and Cleveland Police say a grey-coloured Ford Transit van was involved.

    The force said the boy remained in a "very poorly" condition in Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.

    Officers are keen to trace anyone who might have footage of the collision.
