It took 40 minutes for Durham to get the first of the two Warwickshire wickets they needed to see off their first innings. And, then like buses, two came along at once.

Ethan Bamber was the first to go for 21, edging a ball from Matthew Potts to Colin Ackermann at second slip. That ended a partnership of 43 for the ninth wicket with Michael Booth.

Booth finished on 58* because moments after Bamber departed so too did Vishwa Fernando. He was bowled by debutant Brendan Doggett for one.

Doggett finished with 3-71 while Daniel Hogg took 3-60. Durham's lead is not massive at 62 runs, but they do have a slight advantage over the visitors.

It's a sunny day in CLS but there's a distinctly different feel to events today. The wind has picked up and it feels a lot cooler, with highs of only 12C expected compared to the warmth of the previous two days.

The first job for Durham is to try and see off the Warwickshire tail. The new ball is two overs old and it brought a wicket with its sixth delivery last night.

Michael Booth will resume on his highest score of 50 and he also staved off a heavy first innings deficit for The Bears last night when he put on 115 runs for the seventh wicket with Kai Smith.

Smith looked set for his first century but lofted a ball to third man Emilio Gay when he was on 79. It was the only mistake of his innings but it was costly.

There may be a spot of rain around later, but hopefully this game will advance at a rate of knots today.

Kai Smith and Michael Booth have put a partnership together of 101 runs and helped Warwickshire pass the follow-on target too.

Durham haven't really had a sniff of a wicket since tea. The pitch seems flat and slow and the ball is 72 overs old.

Smith also looks set for his first century in FC cricket, having scored his first 50 earlier. He is on 77 and Booth is on 27.

It's gloomy and the lights have been on since 5.27pm. There are nine overs left today and we are looking at a finish of around 6.30pm.

With four overs to go to tea Warwickshire are now six down. Ed Barnard is the latest to go as debutant Brendan Doggett has him caught at mid-on for 12.

Doggett has taken wickets in consecutive overs. Sam Hain was caught down the legside by Ollie Robinson on 30 in his previous over.

It has clouded over here and got a bit gloomy in the last hour or so and maybe the change in conditions is helping the bowlers. But Warwickshire have a battle on their hands at the moment.

Matthew Potts looked set for a second consecutive century against Warwickshire, having come in yesterday afternoon with Durham on 234-7.

He batted really nicely and added 120 for the eighth wicket with Ben McKinney. Whern McKinney was out for 153, Potts continued to push the scoring rate along.

But he was eventually out for 70, stumped by Kai Smith off the bowling of Tazeem Ali. The decision from umpire Paul Pollard left the batsman looking rather stunned.

Durham were then dismissed for 387 as debutant Aussie Brendan Doggett got a third ball duck, LBW to Ali, who finished with career-best figures of 4-66. Having said that, the 18-year-old leg spinner is only playing in his second match.

We've had 105 overs and time is running out for a fourth batting point for Durham, but that's not worrying Matthew Potts.

He's just pulled Michael Booth into the car park for six and followed that up next ball with a four. He now has 69.

Durham have lost the services of Ben McKinney this morning. He was caught behind, down the legside by young keeper Kai Smith, off the bowling of Ethan Bamber, when on 153.

He and Potts added 120 for the eighth wicket and took Durham to a third batting point.

The sun is shining in Chester-le-Street and we are in for another lovely day in the North East, with highs of around 19C.

And will the sun continue to shine on the Durham duo of Ben McKinney and Matthew Potts? They put on 109 runs last night and have taken the side to within seven runs of a third batting point.

When the two came together that looked unlikely because Durham lost three wickets for five runs in two crazy overs after tea.

McKinney has a career-best 143 and Potts has 53. If the latter is to break his highest total then we are in for a treat because he made 149* at Edgbaston last season.

Durham opener Ben McKinney is now on his highest score in FC cricket. A six off Ethan Bamber took him to 124, beating his 121 in a win here against Notts last season.

He also hit Bamber for four in the same over and has now put on 88 runs with Matthew Potts, who has 47.

These are much-needed runs for Durham after they lost three wickets in two overs after tea. It would be nice from the home team's perspective to see these two still together at the close of play.

Feasibility studies are under way, with the council intending to keep the frontage "intact".

Durham have got themselves in a spot of bother after tea, losing three wickets for five runs in just two overs.

It all began when Colin Ackermann slog-swept Tazeem Ali to Hamza Shaikh on the legside boundary when on 18. Will Rhodes, who made 10 and two on his debut last weekend, went for a third ball duck, bowled by Ali.

Then Ben Raine missed one when he was on four and was bowled by Vishwa Fernando. He could have been out first ball after edging an Ali delivery straight through the legs of leg slip.

Last weekend Durham lost their last five wickets for just 21 runs at Notts and didn't recover from that. I feel they are going to leave plenty of runs out there today as well.

But in Ben McKinney they have hope. The opener has been steady and has 93 runs.

Sunderland winger Romaine Mundle is expected to return from a hamstring injury in time for the play-offs.

The last thing Warwickshire needed to do was give a chance to David Bedingham. He scored 1,331 championship runs last year and broke Durham records for fun.

He was on 29 when he edged Ethan Bamber to rookie keeper Kai Smith, but he couldn't hold onto the chance. If that wasn't bad enough he was dropped in Bamber's next over as well, this time at first slip by Rob Yates when on 30.

He and Ben McKinney have put on 60 runs so far, with McKinney reaching his 50 in 93 balls with seven fours.

It is a lovely warm afternoon in Chester-le-Street and plenty of spectators are in T-shirts and shorts. I'm old enough to remember people telling us they shouldn't play cricket this far north in April.

We are just a few minutes away from lunch now and David Bedingham has recently joined Ben McKinney in the middle.

Bedingham, who was Division One's leading run-maker last season, got off the mark with a beautiful four through mid-wicket off Michael Booth.

He replaced Emilio Gay, who was caught behind off Booth on 41, but had been becalmed for a few overs prior to his dismissal. He did put on 78 runs with McKinney though after Durham lost opener Alex Lees for a duck in the first over.
