Just before 09:00 officers executed a warrant at an address in the Westlands area of the city.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “The planned strike followed intelligence that suggested drug-related criminality may be operating from the property.
“Officers gained entry and located a large-scale cannabis farm"
The man was arrested on suspicion of producing a controlled drug and remains in custody.
A section of Chester Road was closed and electricity to the property and neighbouring homes was switched off "as a safety precaution."
Power has since been restored and the road reopened.
A man has been stabbed outside a shop in Middlesbrough.
It happened just before 01:00 BST when the 22-year-old was attacked by three men wearing dark clothes and balaclavas outside Jacks convenience store in Normanby Road.
Cleveland Police said the man was taken to James Cook Hospital.
Two of the attackers were believed to have been riding a motorbike.

Officers executed a warrant at the property in the Westlands area earlier, but have not said whether it was to carry out a search or an arrest.
Northumbria Police said electricity to the property had been switched off "as a safety precaution" but have not revealed any further details.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 09:00 today officers executed a warrant at an address in The Westlands area of Sunderland.
“Police remain at the scene. Anyone with any concerns is encouraged to speak to an officer on duty.”
Holidaymakers returning from Gran Canaria were diverted to Portugal so a passenger could be removed.

The 47-year-old was found by Northumbria Police at about 09:20 BST on Tuesday at the terrace property in Clavering Road, Swalwell. He died at the scene.
A cordon was set up outside the house, which had its windows smashed.
The death is being treated as unexplained and the man's next-of-kin are being supported, the force added.

The teenagers were waiting at a bus stop near Splash when they were attacked by a group of women in their 30s on Friday night.
It is understood the women had been ejected from a nearby pub, Cleveland Police said.
One grabbed one of the 15-year-olds by the hair and dragged her and when her friend tried to step in she was grabbed by another of the older women and was pushed to the ground, where she hit her head on the pavement.
One of the teenagers was checked over in hospital for bumps to her head.
Police have appealed for any witnesses to contact them.

The attack happened in Gateshead at about 15:20 BST on 5 May when officers on patrol in Wythburn Place asked a man on an electric motorcross bike to stop.
He drove at the officer, knocking him over and causing minor injuries, before running off.
Northumbria Police have released a photo of man (above) they would like to trace.
Crown Estates said an update of "systems and measures" at Newcastle's The Gate would be carried out.
