    Multi-millionaire businessman Zef Eisenberg has been speaking to the BBC for the first time since his high speed racing accident at Elvington Airfield near York a week ago. 

    The 43 year old entrepreneur from Guernsey was racing his Madmax Turbine bike at the Straightliners Top Speed meeting when he fell off. 

    He suffered from multiple injuries and was airlifted to hospital in Leeds. 

  3. Update: East Coast rail strikepublished at 14:02 British Summer Time 26 September 2016

    Workers on Virgin Trains East Coast are to stage a 24-hour strike on Monday 3 October, the RMT union has announced.

    The union said the action was being taken over threatened job cuts, as well as disputes over working conditions and safety.

    It said talks aimed at resolving the issues had failed and staff had been instructed not to work any shifts between 00:01 and 23:59 on the day.

    Virgin Trains said it would be running a full timetable during the strike. 

  4. York school to be renamed in the New Yearpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 26 September 2016

    York's Canon Lee School is to change it's name to Vale of York Academy in the New Year. 

    The school, which opened in 1941, is due to become an academy early next year. Governors say they felt that now was the right time to take the school into the next chapter of its history. 

     It will also introduce a new logo and new school uniform.

    Canon Lee will join Manor Church of England Academy, Poppleton Ousebank, Forest of Galtres and Burton Green, to become part of the Hope Learning Trust, York.

  5. 'Warriors' stage king's battle marchpublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 26 September 2016

    A group of "warriors" are staging a three-week, 300-mile anniversary march to echo King Harold's journey to the Battle of Hastings.

    The group set off from York this morning. They'll be stopping off at sites connected with the Norman conquest.

    A world champion trials bike rider completes a full lap of the Isle of Man's 37-mile (60.1 km) TT course on one wheel.

  7. Motorcyclist dies in crash near Harrogatepublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 26 September 2016

    A motorcyclist from the Ripon area has died after a collision near Sicklinghall yesterday evening.

    The motorcyclist was travelling west on a white and silver BMW from Sicklinghall towards Wetherby.

    A black Volkswagen Polo was travelling in the opposite direction. 

    The man in his fifties came off his bike and was pronounced dead at the scene. 

    Police want to hear from anyone who might have seen what happened.

    Helicopter ER will run on the Reality Channel and follows the work of the team initially made famous by the BBC show Helicopter Heroes.

  9. Financial boost for Cleveland Way National Trailpublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 26 September 2016

    A company which organises ultra runs on the Cleveland Way is to donate money from the events to the North York Moors National Park.

    The authority has agreed a three-year deal with Hardmoors, under which a pound of every entry fee to one of their runs will be donated to support the work of the Cleveland Way.  

    The money will be used to promote and manage the trail.

    Malcolm Hodgson, National Trails Officer for the Cleveland Way, says the funding will allow them to continue to provide essential information through the Cleveland Way website as well as supporting work maintain the path.

  10. Couple remain in hospital after Selby attackpublished at 10:44 British Summer Time 26 September 2016

    A man and woman who were injured in an incident in Selby at the weekend remain in a stable condition in hospital.

    A 25-year-old is due to appear at York Magistrates' Court this morning charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, driving a car whilst disqualified, driving without insurance, and driving whilst unfit through drink.

    Two other men, aged 27 and 31, who were arrested in connection with the incident have been released on bail while investigations continue, North Yorkshire Police said.

    We told you earlier about new pumps being delivered to the Foss Barrier today.

    It's nine months since hundreds of homes and businesses were damaged in York when the flood barrier was lifted after the pumping station was inundated.

    John and Jan Findlay's York home was flooded on Boxing Day. 

    They've been out of their home ever since.

    • York City Knights coach James Ford has called on Rugby League officials to look at the League One play-off format after the team only had six days to prepare for the match away at Toulouse

    The Environment Agency says its confident that work carried out at the Foss Flood Barrier in York will help to protect the city.

    New pumps are due to be delivered today.

    The Foss Barrier was lifted during heavy flooding last Christmas because of fears the neighbouring control room would be flooded.  

    Hundreds of homes and businesses across the city flooded, forcing many out of their properties. 

  16. Winds delay TT course wheelie attempt - but Dougie does itpublished at 08:48 British Summer Time 26 September 2016

    Dougie Lampkin's attempt to continuously wheelie around the 37-mile Isle of Man TT course was postponed on Saturday due to high winds.

    Gusts of 55mph were expected which would have made the ride impossible.

    The North Yorkshireman's attempt on Sunday went more to plan though - after setting off from the grandstand in the town of Douglas, 12-time World Trials champion Dougie battled the winds, traffic (the roads remained open during the attempt) and the sharp rises and falls of the TT circuit to lap the course in one hour 35 minutes!

  18. Archbishop of York marks battle's 950th anniversarypublished at 08:09 British Summer Time 26 September 2016

    Stamford Bridge

    A Yorkshire village has been commemorating the 950th anniversary of a historic battle.

    The Battle of Stamford Bridge saw an army led by the Saxon King Harold defeat a group of Viking invaders.

    Villagers held a re-enactment of the fighting with a descendant of King Harald of Norway who was killed by the Saxons.

    Guests at the event include the Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu, who was given a tour of the battlefield.
