    The Police Service of Northern Ireland's Derry City and Strabane district - which neighbours County Donegal - offers its condolences to those affected by the explosion in Creeslough.

    It also paying tribute to fellow emergency services workers who were involved in the search and rescue operation at the service station.

    Chairman of St Michael's Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) club Liam McElhinney says it will bring in experts next week to support young people who've been affected by what's happened.

    Senior Irish politicians including the taoiseach (Irish prime minister) attended a vigil Mass in the village this evening - Mr McElhinney says their presence "moved" the community.

    "It gave us a bit of strength that people are thinking about us in this terrible time and the tragedy that we went through," he says.

    SDLP leader Colum Eastwood says the people of his home city Londonderry, just across the border from County Donegal, are standing with the Creeslough community.

    The Ulster Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) confirms there'll be a silence at all matches held across the province this weekend.

    "It is a tragedy that has numbed us all and the people of Creeslough and the wider Donegal community are uppermost in our thoughts," says the board.

    People have gathered at St Michael’s Church in Creeslough to remember the lives lost in yesterday’s explosion.

    The car park outside the church is overflowing and the main road outside the church has vehicles lined either side as far as the eye can see.

    Unable to fit inside the building, some people are standing outside the doors in reflective silence and listening to the service over loud speakers.

    The silence is only broken to join in audible prayer.

    A candle was lit at the start of the service for every person lost in the tragedy.

    "Each candle represents a life we knew," said the priest.

    "A loved one lost, a light for the grieving families."

    The candles will remain lit over the next seven days as a community comes together to remember friends, neighbours and loved ones who've been taken from them.

    Irish President Michael D Higgins says the shock of what has happened in Creeslough will be "shared by all people throughout the country".

    "All of our thoughts must go out to all of those who have been affected," he says.

    There are no words for what has happened to the community of Creeslough, says Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald.

    Dr Paul Stewart has been a GP in Creeslough for 23 years - he says the explosion reminded him of what he'd witnessed growing up in Belfast during the Northern Ireland Troubles.

    "Three floors in the centre of the building just collapsed on those poor people who were maybe in buying a paper or getting a packet of crisps," he tells Irish national broadcaster RTÉ.

    "Any of us could have been there passing through."

    Dr Stewart says it's a "huge tragedy" for everyone in the Creeslough community and it'll "take a long time to heal these scars".

    "They’ve lost 10 friends, neighbours and loved ones and nearly as many [are] in hospital.

    "For me, the work is beginning - it’s mainly psychological help that people need now... it takes time and patience."

    Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister) Micheál Martin says he'll stay near Creeslough overnight to meet community leaders from the area.

    "This is an enormous trauma on so many families, but also on the community and young people as well."

    Mr Martin also praises services from Northern Ireland for their assistance in the search and rescue operation, saying it "demonstrated the sense of community in this region".

    The main street through the village of Creeslough is eerily quiet and sombre after yesterday's tragic incident.

    A coffee shop opposite the destroyed garage forecourt is the only hive of activity.

    Coffee Pod employees worked through the night to provide hot drinks and food to the emergency response teams and continued into the morning, offering refreshments to local people, gardaí and the media.

    An elderly couple, who did not want to give their names, told BBC News NI that their "hearts are completely shattered" by what happened.

    The couple said the village's Applegreen store was at the "very centre of daily life" in Creeslough.

    They said: "The village will rally round and support each other but I don't think we can ever get over what has happened here - how can you?"
