Traffic Watch NI have warned road users to be careful.

Here's what they say to expect

    • Flying debris is likely and could lead to injuries or danger to life
    • Probably some damage to buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs
    • Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, and ferry services are affected
    • Some roads and bridges likely to close
    • There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage
    • Injuries and danger to life is likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties

It is a really wet and windy morning all courtesy of Storm Debi.

We have lots of weather warnings and with good reason.

So a yellow weather warning for wind and rain across the whole of Northern Ireland until 14:00 GMT and until noon an amber warning for parts of Armagh and the Down coast.

Many of our weather stations are reporting 5-10mm of rain an hour, every hour, for most of the last three to four hours.

Surface water is a real issue today, the ground in many places already waterlogged and nowhere for that rain to go.

Do take extra care if you have to be on the roads and perhaps wait to make your journey if you can.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council has warned that there will some disruption to services.

If your bin is due to be collected on Monday, collection services are delayed.

The council has asked people to secure their wheelie bins were possible and, once, emptied, please bring them back in again to avoid damage.

Household recycling centres and public conveniences will be opening at the later time of 12:00 GMT.

The district’s five parks, Castlewellan, Delamont, Kilbroney, Slieve Gullion and Warrenpoint Municipal Park will be closed to visitors and vehicles due to the increased likelihood and risks associated with falling branches and debris.

All associated facilities (cafes, caravan parks, forest drives etc) will be closed also.

The council is advising the public not to visit our play parks and outdoor recreational areas and to exercise caution when visiting coastal sites, forests, country parks, harbours and nature reserves in vehicles or on foot.

  4. Warnings in place in Northern Ireland and Republicpublished at 07:27 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2023
