Irish language 'not a threat to any member of society' - Reillypublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 13 May 2022
A brief point of order is brought as Sinn Féin's Aisling Reilly addresses the chamber in Irish.
There is a pause while MLAs put their headsets on for simultaneous translation, and the West Belfast MLA resumes.
She says that it is good to see this translation is available.
"This is a very important day, it is important for all those who love the Irish language, and have fought to protect rights for Irish language users," she says, in Irish.
"Irish is not a threat to any member of society. It is something which should be celebrated.
"That is true of the Irish language, that is true of the Irish Language Act, that is true of equality.
"I am looking forward to seeing a new society being built, built on equality and respect."
