    Ibrahim Taguri was due to stand as the Lib Dem candidate for the London constituency of Brent Central. It is understood that although he has stepped down as the party's candidate Mr Taguri still intends to stand in the constituency as an independent. But a senior Lib Dem source tells me the party "expects" to field a candidate against Mr Taguri.

    Later, a report on the power of UK security agencies to access private communications will be published. The Intelligence and Security Committee inquiry has considered the impact on privacy. The report has also been looking at whether current UK laws are fit for purpose. The inquiry was launched in 2013 after leaks by former US intelligence contractor Edward Snowden.     In political news this morning, a former head of fundraising for the Liberal Democrats has said he will step down as a party candidate. It comes after the Telegraph claimed, external he had accepted a "potentially illegal donation". The newspaper said an undercover reporter posed as an Indian businessman to approach Ibrahim Taguri. According to the report, Mr Taguri advised the fake businessman on how he could give more than £7,500 to the party but get around rules about publicly declaring it. Mr Taguri denies any wrongdoing.
