    D. Norcutt, Castleton, Canada: Mr. Cameron has proven to be a sobering influence in Europe. From this side 'of the pond' it appears that Mr. Cameron is well respected amongst his peers and had provided invaluable input on numerous situations. Whilst it may not be an ideal time to leave, why not 'quit when ahead?' One never knows but Boris may well liven things up in a most hilarious manner and make the European Union one of relaxed popularity and co-operation once again.

Nick Dearsley, Hampstead, London: The interview today with David Cameron was set in a kitchen. Can we please know more about David's kitchen please? How many has he got? And, come to think of it, we haven't seen the other parties leaders kitchens either aside from Ed, who we know has TWO KITCHENS. MORE KITCHEN INFORMATION PLEASE on the PM at least!

Michael James, Worcester, Worcs: I think it's a candid and honest "statement" from a man who has tried to get this fantastic country back on track to be competitive worldwide and make Britain great again! Easy to take pot shots at our parliamentary leaders who have no recourse of reply. This govt's actions have got us back on track to be leaders again, not followers in the desert of international commerce, anti-terrorist actions and law and order. We are credible again, just please, protect the NHS and our armed forces!

A Labour source said: "It is arrogant and presumptuous of David Cameron to speculate about a third Tory term in 2020 before the British public have been given the chance to deliver a verdict on his first. The Tories are taking the British public for granted.

"Another term of the Tories would mean working people worse off and the NHS under threat because of their extreme spending plans. We need a better plan for a better future. We need a Labour government."

Harry Jewell: I think that it's a great shame but altogether it is not entirely unexpected news. I'm fully aware of the trials and tribulations of being Prime Minister and indeed leader of a major party. So therefore it makes sense for Mr Cameron to hand over Tory leadership to a new more fresh politician. But it is a shame because Cameron has been a great Tory leader and a vast improvement from Iain Duncan Smith and Michael Howard. I hope that Cameron and his Tory team win this election and he ends on a high, positive note in 2020.

Brian, Harpenden: He says he won't run for a third term but at the moment he'll say anything to get votes for this term. He'll probably deal with breaking his word in four years time by saying that his party needs him and that it's his duty and that no one could have foreseen what's happened (regardless of what's happened) and that he still feels there's a job to be done. This is all about this election and nothing about five years' time.

June Martin, Linlithgow, West Lothian: After the shocking way Cameron is talking about the Scottish electorate, he doesn't deserve to stay in office now, never mind over the next 5 years! He threw everything at us to stay in the union and convinced the electorate to vote No. Now we have the prospect of Scotland actually having a say at Westminster, he is screaming we shouldn't. We are either a paid up member of the UK or not - he can't have it both ways.
