  2. Cracks in eurosceptic front?published at 18:08

    Latest from Doncaster

    Gavin Stamp
    BBC political reporter

UKIP have been trying to display a carefully crafted unity today by getting all the groups that back EU exit to sing from the same hymn sheet. However, the cracks are beginning to show. The influential Business for Britain was present at the conference but didn't want to speak from the same platform, angering some "kippers". Now Douglas Carswell, the party's only MP, has backed Business for Britain - which retains strong links to the Tories but won't commit to back an EU exit until the outcome of David Cameron's negotiations - saying they have a good history of winning referendums.

This came after leader Nigel Farage told journalists that Mr Carswell had "residual loyalty" to his friends in the Conservative Party and amid reports of any angry exchange between the MP and leading UKIP donor Arron Banks - who happens to back the separate Leave.EU group.

It will be interesting to see how the dust settles on all this.

  6. Lucas: Greens are distinctivepublished at 15:35

    BBC News Channel

  7. The MP v the money manpublished at 15:28

    Robin Brant
    Political Correspondent

UKIP's only MP has been involved in a heated exchange with the millionaire donor who is helping to bankroll the party's EU referendum campaign over claims he threatened to have him deselected.

Douglas Carswell confronted Arron Banks this afternoon near a press room at Doncaster race course where the party is holding its conference.

An aide of Mr Banks who saw the exchange described the Clacton MP as "angry", adding he started by saying "who are you to say...".

But Mr Carswell has insisted it is not in his nature to be shouty and he was being "matter of fact".

The Clacton MP asked Mr Banks why he had apparently briefed a newspaper that he may face deselection as a UKIP candidate if he went against party policy on supporting a rival 'No' campaign in the EU referendum.

The Guardian has reported that Mr Banks, who gave £1m to UKIP last year, said Mr Carswell should explain his position and possibly face deselection if he offered official UKIP support to Business for Britain.

Mr Carswell later said "it's for him to explain the logic of undermining Parliament".

Asked if he valued the opinion of Mr Banks, Mr Carswell said '"it's very helpful of him to give his advice", later adding: "I'm very grateful for his advice on politics."

Mr Banks told the BBC his parting words to the party's only MP was '"stay classy".

  9. Farage's 'ideological obsession'published at 14:59

Labour has given its reaction to UKIP leader Nigel Farage's conference speech. Shadow minister Jonathan Ashworth said it proved Mr Farage has "nothing to offer working people".

    Quote Message

It shows an obsession with Europe at the expense of everything else, including the UK’s national interest. Working people across the country are facing massive challenges, from pressures in our NHS, to cuts to tax credits, to getting on the housing ladder. The UKIP leader has nothing to say to them."

     Mr Ashworth adds:

    Quote Message

Being in Europe has protected and improved workers’ rights in Britain and brought us jobs, investment, growth, security and influence in the world. The fact that Nigel Farage would put all of that at risk because of an ideological obsession with leaving shows he simply cannot be trusted to stand up for the people he claims to want to represent.”

  15. Climate change 'must be at centre of policy'published at 14:51 British Summer Time 25 September 2015

Natalie Bennett now focuses her remarks on climate change, declaring this to be the party’s "'Climate Sense' conference". She accuses the other parties of not taking the subject seriously enough.

    Quote Message

Dealing with climate change has to be at the centre of every policy, every decision, the responsibility of everyone. If we don’t make that a reality, our children and grandchildren will never forgive us."

She urges everyone to do their bit to drive climate change up the agenda.

  16. Greens 'different from Corbyn's Labour'published at 14:36

Some commentators are asking what is the difference between Labour and the Greens, says Natalie Bennett. Well, she adds, Labour councils aren't listening to voters nor meeting their needs, and are often "in the pocket of developers and big business". Her comments are met with some applause from the assembled crowd.

  17. Bennett: We can achieve electoral reformpublished at 14:28

The Green leader says she hopes to to be able to work with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn in securing electoral reform. Highlighting the government's slim majority in the House of Commons, she pledges: "United in a just cause, we can win electoral reform."

  18. 'Pressure growing against austerity'published at 14:24

Natalie Bennett tells the Green Party conference: "The pressure is growing against the failed politics of austerity, on the disastrous privatisation of public services, on treating the planet as though it were a mine and a rubbish dump." She adds:

    Quote Message

Politics is heading towards the understanding that social and environmental justice are indivisible – and essential to all of our futures. Politics is heading, fast, towards the policies the Green Party has consistently pursued and promoted for decades.

  19. Bennett: Politics is changingpublished at 14:17

Natalie Bennett argues for a more proportional voting system in the UK. She says if it weren't for the first-past-the-post system used in the UK general election, Caroline Lucas would have been joined by 24 other Green MPs in the Commons in May.

Ms Lucas says the "political times" are changing, telling members and activists that "it’s the time of new politics". She adds:

    Quote Message

In Britain you can measure that not just by the rise of Jeremy Corbyn to the Labour leadership, but by the Green Party’s more than 1.1 million votes in the general election and the 'Green surge' that’s seen our membership more than treble."

  20. Bennett's opening remarkspublished at 14:14

Natalie Bennett is on her feet and begins with a quip. Noting that the conference is taking place in Bournemouth, the same place as the Lib Dems, and tells the party faithful "we’re getting used to taking seats from them" but adds "I promise that’s the only thing we’ll be following them on".
