Those MPs who are not convinced by the government's call for military intervention in Syria have "no less hatred" for IS terrorists and it is not because they are pacifists, says Labour MP David Winnick. It is because there does not seem to be a strong case, he says, citing the recent Foreign Affairs Committee report. Air strikes would "simply make us feel good and that we are doing something as a result of the atrocities", he adds.

  2. In quotes: What David Cameron's proposingpublished at 13:25

    Quote Message

I want to be absolutely clear about what I'm proposing here. What I'm saying is that the government will bring together all of its arguments about how we succeed in Iraq, how we succeed in Syria, what a political process should achieve, how we degrade and defeat ISIL, the role that Britain should play, my argument that we should be going further in Syria as well as Iraq - put all those arguments together in response the Foreign Affairs Select Committee. Then it will be for members of this house to see if they want to come forward to assent to that idea then if that happens then we can have the vote and take the action so we are playing a part with others in defence of our own national security. He adds:
