Fancy a job at the House of Lords? It might not be as cushy as you'd think: two roles are currently being advertised there on zero-hours contracts.

In July, House of Commons Commissioner Tom Brake explained in a written answer that the House of Commons "does not offer new members of staff zero-hours contracts, and guarantees work for all its employees".

However, he added: "The arrangements in the House of Lords are a matter for the administration of that House."

  6. Lord Feldman's position 'is not tenable'published at 10:00

    Today Programme
    BBC Radio 4

The editor of the influential Tory website, ConservativeHome, said earlier on Today that he thought the position of Lord Feldman as party chairman was "not tenable".

Paul Goodman, a former MP, says it's "simply not persuasive that the buck stops" with Grant Shapps over the appointment of Mark Clarke to run the party's Road Trip 2015 campaign during the general election.

He says the decision was taken by the party's Senior Management Team - which included Lord Feldman as the "senior" chairman. He said the buck "stops, I'm afraid, with Lord Feldman".

Paul Goodman also casts doubt on the party's internal inquiry into allegations of bullying, sexual abuse and blackmail. He says the lawyers conducting the inquiry need the power to call for papers and cross-question witnesses which he says isn't the case at the moment.

Mark Clarke has been banned from the Conservative Party for life, but denies any wrongdoing.

  7. McDonnell: Corbyn will decide on free votepublished at 09:48

Shadow Chancellor, John McDonnell, says the matter of whipping is for the leader of the party to decide. His comments come ahead of a crucial shadow cabinet meeting to discuss air strikes in Syria.

There has been some disagreement whether the decision should be taken by the shadow cabinet or the leader, Jeremy Corbyn.

Mr McDonnell adds he would prefer a free vote. On the issue of potential shadow cabinet resignations, Mr McDonnell says he thinks the party would arrive at a "common position".

  8. Sugar tax would 'nudge' people to make healthier choicespublished at 09:45

    Victoria Derbyshire

    Dr Sarah Wollaston

Dr Sarah Wollaston, a Conservative MP, says a sugar tax will help to "nudge" people to make healthier choices.

As chair of the health select committee, which is advocating a sugar tax, she says it would be "irresponsible for the government not to take urgent and bold action".

She says "nobody needs to pay this tax" adding the intention isn't to "hit people in their pockets" and saying they can choose a cheaper alternative.

The report also recommends a number of other measures to tackle childhood obesity.

  9. Watch: Jeremy Corbyn outlines opposition to Syria strikespublished at 09:20

    Jeremy Corbyn

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn explains why he believes air strikes against Syria will not ''solve the problem that is there''.

He says he is concerned there would be civilian casualties, no matter how targeted the bombing campaign.

A decision on whether Labour MPs will have a free vote is expected today.

    BBC home duty editor tweets...

There are contradictory reports in the newspapers today over whether Labour MPs will get a free vote on Syria strikes.

The Telegraph's headline says "Corbyn ready for showdown" while the Mirror says "Corbyn is set to give his MPs free vote on Syria blitz".

It won't be too long until we find out which newspaper was correct as the decision is expected after a meeting with the shadow cabinet.
