  2. BMA: Doctors not being misled over contractspublished at 12:28

    The Daily Politics

Dr Tony Dolphin, from the BMA, rejects claims that its members have been misled about the new contract terms on offer.

    Quote Message

We can't mislead our junior doctors. They are bright, intelligent people. They look at the evidence and make up their minds. 98% of them have rejected this offer as being unsafe."

  3. Conservative MP: Doctors strike a 'step too far'published at 12:23

    The Daily Politics

Conservative MP Dr James Davies, a member of the health select committee, says the junior doctors strike is a "step too far" given that the new contract has reduced the maximum number of hours that can be worked and capped the number of night calls.

    Quote Message

I think junior doctors have been misled, I am afraid. Looking into the fine detail of it, I have to say the government has addressed the vast majority of concerns that have been put forward. There are some issues about Saturday pay but the government is looking to bring about a seven-day NHS and this is where discussions are needed."

  4. Norman Smith: Public opinion could determine doctors' disputepublished at 12:20

    The Daily Politics

The BBC's assistant political editor Norman Smith says the two sides in the doctors dispute are "miles apart" and public opinion will be key to how the issue plays out. While the public would generally be expected to sympathise with medical professionals rather than politicians, he says some within government believe this "conventional wisdom" could be turned on its head, particularly if future strike action affects A&E services. However, he says for the moment ministers are keeping their heads down. Speaking in the West Midlands, the BBC's Phil Mackie says the state of public opinion is hard to gauge but he believes that approximately two-thirds of people currently back the doctors.

  9. John McDonnell urges Hunt to resume doctors' talkspublished at 11:57

    BBC News Channel

    Shadow chancellor John McDonnell

Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell has said the doctors strike is a "tragedy" and a "constructive settlement" is urgently needed. Speaking in central London, Mr McDonnell said the NHS had been able to introduce a truly 7-day a week service in Scotland in Wales without industrial action and Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt must knuckle down and start talking to doctors about a contract that would not compromise patient safety.

    Quote Message

These people don't want to go on strike. They want to look after their patients. We are just saying to Jeremy Hunt get back round the table now.

  14. Teenager gets tattoo of Ed Miliband's facepublished at 11:27

A 18-year-old university student has been talking about her decision to get a tattoo of Ed Miliband's face on her leg.

Buzzfeed, external reports that Hannah Stock thought "why not" and decided to get a tattoo of the former Labour leader who she calls her "hero" and "an inspiration".

She said: “I’ve been a Labour member for two years but he’s such a hero and he’s just an inspiration to me. I miss his direction of the Labour party at the moment so I woke up yesterday and thought ‘why not?'"

According to Ms Stock her mother was unhappy about the decision and stopped speaking to her.

It seems despite Ed Miliband now only being a humble backbencher, the strength of his fan club, the Milifandom, continues.

Carwyn Jones (left) and Nigel Farage (right) debate Europe with Adrian Masters moderating

Last night Wales watched one of what will probably be many debates, on the UK's membership of the European Union.

Pro-EU Carwyn Jones, First Minister of Wales went head-to-head with UKIP leader and anti-EU campaigner Nigel Farage.

Each side claimed victory, saying their man had the most effective message.

Leave.EU, which is campaigning for Britain to make a fresh start outside the EU, said Carwyn Jones was "out of touch", "ignoring the facts" and "misleading the public".

While Britain Stronger for Europe, which believes the UK is better off in the EU, said Nigel Farage had "no answers" about the alternatives to EU membership, was "clueless" and "making it up" as he went along.
