  12. Isle of Wight needs help balancing the bookspublished at 12:28 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2016

Mr Cameron said spending power was increasing in the next year, but added that the settlement for local government allowed councils to sell property to bridge the funding gap over the next five years.

  13. In context: First ministers' concerns about June referendumpublished at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 3 February 2016

    Nick Eardley
    BBC Scotland Westminster correspondent

Opposition in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to an early referendum has been building in recent weeks.

There is concern that a date just weeks after the 5 May election would mean the campaigns become confused or there wouldn't be time to properly consider the European issue.

It's interesting to note the Labour Welsh First Minister Carwyn Jones has signed this letter.

Nationally his party favours a June vote - Alan Johnson, the leader of the Labour In campaign said yesterday his party would not stand in the way of a 23 June referendum. And last night, Scottish Labour's leader Kezia Dugdale told BBC Scotland she was happy for the vote to be held then.

But expect continued pressure from devolved governments and administrations on this issue.

Even if David Cameron can persuade other European leaders of his renegotiation plans, it's possible he will face significant opposition domestically on the date.

    House of Commons
    Parliament

The SNP's Angus Robertson asks for the EU referendum to be deferred until later in the year, so it doesn't clash with elections in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

See our story on the letter here.

Mr Cameron said he believed people were perfectly capable of making up their minds on a number of elections, and then making up their minds on the "vital question of the EU". He said that now that a referendum had been agreed on and voted on, he did not want  to waste time debating the timing of it.
