  1. Blair defends his post-PM work recordpublished at 10:03 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

In the final part of the interview, Tony Blair defends his work record since leaving Downing Street.

Put to him that some say he's "trashed the brand", he cautions not to believe everything you read in the press - and says people should look at the "facts".

He says he spends about 80% of his time on unpaid work and adds:

    Quote Message

What we actually do is very good and exciting work around the world, but you won't read it here."

  2. Blair: I don't disrespect Jeremy Corbynpublished at 10:01 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

Tony Blair tells the Marr Show that comments he made on the BBC's This Week's World were not a direct criticism of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn - rather he was talking about "the general populism that's in the world today".

He says there are "insurgent movements of left and right" that are driven by "a great deal of anger and populism", but he warns that "they don't really provide the answers to the problems we face".

Mr Blair, who has been critical of Mr Corbyn in the past, says he's not being disloyal. "I don't disrepect him," he says of the Labour leader.

The former PM says he'd like to see the centre-left and centre-right "get its grip back on the political scene".

  3. Blair: 'Full debate' needed on Chilcot reportpublished at 09:58 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

Turning to the long-awaited Chilcot report in to the Iraq War, which is to be published on 6 July, Tony Blair is asked whether he'll accept its findings.

"It's hard to say that when I haven't seen it," he tells Andrew Marr.

What will be important, he says, is that when the report is out "we have a full debate", adding: "I look forward to participating in that."

He says there are "huge problems" all over the Middle East and the world and "we need to debate what is right policy to deal with this".

  4. Blair: EU exit 'will create years of uncertainty'published at 09:53 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

    Quote Message

If we vote to leave (the EU) we will suffer an immediate shock to our economy. We will create years of uncertainty... and that is not some hypothetical risk - it is something you can, and will, see directly in people's jobs, living standards and businesses' ability to work with confidence."

  5. Blair: Non-EU migration higher than EU migrationpublished at 09:52 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

Tony Blair concedes that the current levels of immigration are "a problem" and he says it needs tackling.

But he insists the answer is not "leaving the EU", pointing out that non-EU migration to the UK is higher than that from the EU.

Returning to the economic argument, he once again attacks Leave, and says:

    Quote Message

These people say they care about people's living standards... those are the people who are going to suffer (from an EU exit)."

  6. Blair: I never wanted UK to join europublished at 09:49 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

On to the euro. Tony Blair rejects suggestions that he ever said the UK should sign up to the currency when he was prime minister.

"We were never in favour of the UK joining the euro," he says. His government at the time could not make the economic case for it, he says.

  7. Blair: Brexit would lead to 'agonising' trade renegotiationpublished at 09:45 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

Tony Blair, UK prime minister from 1997 to 2007, goes on to attack the Leave campaign's economic arguments for leaving the EU.

He says the UK would have to renegotiate trade deals, which would be a "long and agonising process".

He also dismisses the idea the UK could trade under World Trade Organisation rules, saying it "doesn't  bear thinking about". And Brexiteers must know that, he says.

  8. Blair attacks Leave over Turkey EU accession claimspublished at 09:41 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

Tony Blair criticises the Leave campaign for warning about Turkey potentially joining the EU.

"There is no possibility of Turkey joining in the near future," he tells Andrew Marr and says that if it meets the accession criteria in the future the UK has a veto.

He accuses Leave campaigners of  trying to raise the "general fear" around immigration because their other cases for leaving the EU "don't stack up".

  9. Blair: EU exit won't solve immigration issuepublished at 09:39 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

Is the current level of EU migration sustainable, Tony Blair is asked?

The former Labour PM says people's concerns are "completely understandable", but he says it's a worldwide phenomenon.

Leave campaigners have focused on immigration because they've "lost comprehensively" the debate on the economy, he adds.

    Quote Message

If we did vote to leave, the economic aftershock would be severe."

Mr Blair repeats that immigration is an important issue but he adds:

    Quote Message

It's not going to go away as an issue if we leave the EU."

  10. Fox attacks 'inexcusable' claims over Gibraltar sovereigntypublished at 09:35 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

Liam Fox attacks the Remain campaign for, he says, inferring that Gibraltar's sovereignty could be at risk if the UK votes to leave the EU

"It's absolutely inexcusable," he says and adds that David Cameron needs to make a personal intervention to assert that its sovereignty would be protected.

    Quote Message

    We need a clear statement."

  11. Reducing migration means 'pretty tough decisions'published at 09:33 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

On immigration, Liam Fox says he does not want uncontrolled immigration - which, he says, is what is happening as a result of the UK being in the EU.

He argues that outside the EU it would be possible to reduce net migration to the tens of thousands, but says it would require "some pretty tough decisions".

  12. Fox plays down reports of Cameron being unseatedpublished at 09:28 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

Asked about David Cameron's future as leader, Liam Fox says that if the UK votes to leave the EU on 23 June "the best thing would be for David Cameron to stay on", as stability is paramount.

On reports that up to 50 Tory MPs are prepared to initiate a vote of no confidence in Mr Cameron after the vote, Mr Fox says "they may or may not have" - adding that he doesn't know if it's true.

His view is not to go down that route and add political instability to the situation if the UK votes to leave.

He appeals to Tory colleagues to "concentrate on the issues facing the country".

  13. Fox: Migration pledge 'not possible if UK stays in EU'published at 09:25 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

Former Defence Secretary Liam Fox says the Conservatives cannot fulfil their manifesto pledge to reduce net migration to the UK to below 100,000 if the UK stays in the EU.

He says he suspects the PM wanted to secure the ability to cap EU migration in his EU renegotiation - but it wasn't on the table.

    Quote Message

There is no reform to the EU. This is fantasy."

  14. Brexiteers 'think they've got a good chance of removing PM as Tory leader quickly'published at 09:20 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen, a Leave campaigner, has told BBC deputy political editor John Pienaar he believes it "highly likely" that at least 50 Tory MPs would sign demands for a vote of no confidence in the PM if the campaign goes on as it has.

On the Tory splits, Amanda Platell of the Daily Mail, says Leave campaigner and cabinet minister Priti Patel is "going for broke now" and distancing herself from the Tory leadership as the Outers "suspect they've got a good chance" of removing David Cameron as leader.

"They may lose the referendum but for them it's a lose-win situation," she adds.

Yanis Varoufakis adds that it's a "sad fact" that the EU referendum debate is so dominated by Tory infighting.

  15. Vote Leave focus on immigration 'a major defeat for quality of EU debate'published at 09:14 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    The Andrew Marr Show

Looking at Sunday's papers, former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis hones in on the story that Michael Gove and Boris Johnson are urging David Cameron to accept the failure of the government's manifesto pledge to reduce migration into the UK.

Mr Varoufakis says it "signifies the retreat" by Tories on the Leave campaign from "their strong issue, which is sovereignty".

    Quote Message

This is a major defeat for the quality of debate. They've retreated to the UKIP agenda of scaremongering over immigration"

But the Daily Mail's Amanda Platell says that while democracy and sovereignty are important issues, it is "not raw meat for an election - and immigration is".

Anyone who's followed politics for any length of time knows no party's more prone to suicidal bouts of indiscipline than the Labour Party.

Unless, of course, it's the Conservative Party when it's in the mood.

Just now, the Tories are in more of a mood than they've been since the chaotic days of the Major administration, and possibly since 1990, the year the party hacked down Margaret Thatcher in an orgy of political regicide prompted, naturally, by DNA-deep divisions over Europe.

  18. Gove and Johnson challenge PM on immigrationpublished at 08:46 British Summer Time 29 May 2016

    Boris JohnsonImage source, PM

Two of the PM's most senior colleagues have told David Cameron to accept the failure of the government's manifesto pledge to reduce migration into the UK.

Michael Gove and Boris Johnson said the pledge was "corrosive of public trust" while Britain remained in the EU.

But Number 10 said their claim was an "attempt to distract" from the fact that a Brexit would be "disastrous".

It comes as a survey suggests that nine in 10 of the UK's top economists say leaving the EU would be damaging.
