    Nigel Farage has distanced himself from a tweet by leave campaigners linking the EU referendum vote to shootings in Orlando.

    The UKIP leader said Leave.EU was “nothing to do with me at all”, adding: “I’m not in any way formally associated with the organisation. I just think generally after a horrible tragedy it’s best to wait a bit and keep quiet.”

    Mr Farage added: “I understand some office junior sanctioned it and it’s now been withdrawn.”

    Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron has added his voice to the widespread condemnation of Leave.EU's tweet about the Orlando shooting.

    "It is scaremongering at its worst. Their decision to take the poster down but not apologise is cowardly. They know they've crossed the line and should apologise."

    David Cameron has written to President Obama to express shock and offer support to Americans following the mass shooting in Orlando.

    The prime minister’s official spokeswoman said Mr Cameron had written to the President “to underline our shock here and our support for the US people as they deal with this incident”.

    She added that Mr Cameron was being regularly briefed on the situation.

    The home secretary said the image was “utterly irresponsible”.

    She told MPs attempts to link the attack to the EU vote “should rightly be condemned on all sides of this House”.

    Home Secretary Theresa May tells LGBT people "we will not tolerate such bigotry and violence" and adds that no venues in the UK hosting LGBT events have been advised to postpone or cancel.

    She says there were no UK nationals injured in the Orlando attacks.

    She is responding to an urgent question from Labour's Stephen Doughty on the UK's security in light of the shootings in which 50 people were killed, the deadliest mass shooting in US history.
