    Jeremy Corbyn criticised French National Front leader Marine Le Pen, saying the right-wing politician used "awful and absurd language" against Muslims in Europe. 

    Mr Corbyn said Ms Le Pen "uses populism against minorities to get herself elected."

    "The reality is she does not have an economic answer to the problems faced by left communities in France any more than UKIP has an answer to the left-behind communities in the UK," he added.

    Jeremy Corbyn's wife, who is from Mexico, feels "absolute anger and outrage" towards President-elect Donald Trump's plans for a border wall between Mexico and the US, the Labour leader said.

    Mr Corbyn added: "I'm looking forward to the conversation between my wife and Donald Trump."

    He continued: "Donald Trump should grow up and recognise the American economy depends on migrant labour."

    Asked if a 'silver lining' to Brexit would be the ability for the UK to negotiate trade agreements on its own terms, Mr Corbyn said he was "already working on potential trade agreements, with a human rights agenda, a sustainability agenda."

    Mr Corbyn added that he would be "working with left parties across Europe opposed to an austerity agenda".

    Signalling a policy direction away from trade deregulation, Mr Corbyn said "public intervention can actually grow our economy, not stagnate it."

    Speaking on The Andrew Marr Show, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said Donald Trump's election victory was down to "anger and 'left-behind America."

    Mr Corbyn said the loss of industry in the so-called "rust-belt" of mid-western US states had "left those communities to rot."

    Asked if Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders could have won where Hillary Clinton lost, Mr Corbyn said "yes, he probably could have won."
