    The Daily Politics

Former government chief whip Mark Harper says politicians would be wise not to pay attention to opinion polls, and urged the public they will only "get the result they want if they go out and vote for it".

Labour's election campaign chief Andrew Gwynne added: "We are out there to fight for every single vote."

But Mr Harper countered that Theresa May wants to get around the UK and meet people.

  13. SNP MP calls on Greens not to split pro-independence vote in marginal seatspublished at 11:29 British Summer Time 26 April 2017

    The National

    Tommy Sheppard

The National, external is reporting that SNP MP Tommy Sheppard has urged the Scottish Greens not to contest battleground constituencies where the Conservatives have a chance of winning.

The Edinburgh East MP warned the Greens they risked splitting the pro-independence vote by putting up candidates in seats that the Tories are actively targeting, the paper reported.

Speaking to The National, Mr Sheppard said:

    Quote Message

I know the Greens will want to stand some candidates but I also know they have never stood everywhere. So they are going to have to choose. They will want to stand some candidates as they are a national party and will want to put their case to their base, but in deciding which seats to contest and not to contest I think they should be mindful of not splitting the pro-Yes vote and certainly not splitting the anti-Tory vote.”
