    Another Tory MP has been unable to rule out tax rises under a Conservative government, instead backing "flexibility" for the chancellor.

    Speaking on the Daily Politics, Alistair Burt said the manifesto pledge from 2015 for no rises in VAT, national insurance or income tax was "right for the time" but "circumstances are different" for the upcoming election. 

    "You can't say at this stage that everything we had in the previous manifesto must automatically go into the next one," he said. 

    "A new manifesto, a new election, gives the chance for the party to say something different."

    The Communist Party of Britain says it will not field any candidates for June's election - the first time it hasn't run for any seats since 1920. 

    The party's general secretary Robert Griffiths has instead called for supporters to vote Labour in order to "reject austerity, privatisation and imperialist war" under a Tory government. 

    Mr Griffiths says its members will offer "practical campaigning assistance" to local Labour bodies, but has not ruled out running candidates in the future.

    • A moratorium on new Islamic schools in the state system "until the entire Muslim community is better integrated"

    • Failure to report FGM should be a specific criminal offence
    • Medical practitioners should have to waive patient confidentiality and report cases of abuse of children
    • Girls at risk of FGM should be required to have annual school-based medical examinations

    • Crimes where race is a factor, such as in Rotherham where gangs of Pakistani men groomed white women, should be treated as a hate crime

    UKIP deputy leader Peter Whittle has restated the party's commitment to banning Sharia law.

    He said the public were "alarmed" by the growth in Sharia courts and they need to be disbanded.

    He went to say the full face veil was a "deliberate barrier" to integration and a "potent symbol of female oppression".

    Mr Whittle said they need to be outlawed, adding: "People should show their face in a public place."

    UKIP's Margot Parker says law enforcement have "turned a blind eye" to Female Genital Mutilation.

    She says the CPS should work on the "presumption of prosecution" of any parent whose daughter has suffered FGM.

    She said it would sent out a "long overdue" signal that Britain will not tolerate the crime.

    A prospective parliamentary candidate has announced she will not be standing for election in Somerset as she is in the middle of buying a house.

    Liberal Democrat Daisy Benson said the "snap election... unfortunately comes at precisely the wrong time for me".

    Ms Benson said it would be unfair to Yeovil constituents "not to be able to devote 100% of my time to campaigning."

    Former Yeovil MP, Lord Ashdown, thanked Ms Benson who had helped "energise the constituency" during her time as PPC.

    "I know you will join me in thanking Daisy for her tremendous efforts, and wish her every success for the future," he said.
