    Maverick Labour MP John Mann has been praised for his efforts in breaking up a fight between two women in his constituency.

    Mr Mann said he came across the altercation when he was walking through Worksop town centre in his north Nottinghamshire constituency of Bassetlaw.

    "One was getting kicked in the head by the other, and there was a lot of blood. A crowd had gathered to watch," he said. 

    "I broke up the fight and separated the two women."

    The MP received praise for his efforts on social media with one person dubbing him a "hero".

    Nottinghamshire Police said no arrests were made.

    The UK government rejected Nicola Sturgeon's paper of Brexit proposals saying it could cause "significant disruption" to trade within the UK.

    A letter from Brexit Secretary David Davis rejecting the proposals has beenpublished for the first time, external.

    He said there were "clear barriers" to the idea of Scotland staying in the single market via the EEA or EFTA.

    Scottish Brexit minister Mike Russell replied underlining the "fundamental importance" of the single market.

    UKIP's Peter Whittle has told the BBC's Daily Politics that the party has to be "absolutely certain that people get what they voted for last year" in the EU referendum.

    He says UKIP is "fine in terms of money" and will fight hundreds of seats on 8 June. 

    He says while UKIP's vote share might not be as high this time, the party will be "much more focused on a number of seats" as there are "no prizes for coming second" under first past the post.

    He says there are about six key seats they hope to win.

    A website for Labour supporters has revealed more of the people that have been selected as parliamentary candidates for the party. 

    Labour List, external reports that Lisa Pidcock has been selected for North West Durham and fellow councillor Liz Twist for neighbouring Blaydon. It says both are "near-certainties" to enter Parliament.

    Anneliese Dodds, the outgoing MEP for south east England, has reportedly been picked to fight the Remain-backing Oxford East.

    Speaking on a visit to Glasgow, Scotland's First Minster, Nicola Sturgeon said: "The GDP figures should be setting alarm bells ringing.

    "It underlines the importance for making sure there are voices there arguing for common sense argument.

     "We've argued to remain in the single market ....  the best outcome for our economy."

    UKIP leader Paul Nuttall has repeatedly refused to answer where he will stand in the upcoming election, saying he will make the announcement "tomorrow".  

    But according to the Daily Telegraph's chief political correspondent, Stoke-on-Trent Central is not among the listed options. Mr Nuttall came second there in a by-election in February.

    Labour shadow's Brexit secretary, Keir Starmer, has reacted to Boris Johnson's comments that it would be difficult to say "no" to the US if it wanted the UK's support for further air strikes against the Syrian government. 

    Mr Starmer said: “The situation in Syria is obviously very serious but any decisions to be made about a reaction from our country need to be made in Parliament in an informed way. 

    "I don't think Boris Johnson should go off on his own making statements as he has done.”

    Paul Nuttall was asked about comments UKIP activists have reportedly made about Islam. 

    He says the party's national executive committee is looking at statements made by a parliamentary candidate Ann Marie Waters. 

    He defend UKIP's "integration" policy, saying it is not "anti-Muslim" but "all about equality" and "breaking down barriers".
