Reporters covering Theresa May's visit to Cornwall claim they were shut in a room, not allowed to film her and limited to two questions by her party.

Cornwall Live said their journalists were treated in an "archaic" way when they were informed they may not broadcast the visit via Facebook Live.

It said their photographer was only allowed to take stills of the PM.

The Conservatives said the "last minute" request to film on the campaign trail earlier had "not been possible".

    BBC News Channel

The Foreign Secretary has been speaking after reports of clashes between the Prime Minister and European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker over Brexit talks.

    Boris Johnson said:

    Quote Message

In a few weeks time, we also have a general election, and at that contest it is vital to get somebody who is able to negotiate with our friends and partners in Brussels in a way that is sensible, calm, and above all positive. I see no reason at the moment to detract from any of those ambitions. There's every chance we can get a very good deal indeed."

    Karen Robson

The Tories' "imposition" of a general election candidate in Bridgend could cost the party one of its main target seats, a regional official has warned.

Karen Robson is expected to be confirmed as Conservative candidate for the constituency later on Tuesday.

South West Wales' Tory chairman Alex Williams said Bridgend members felt "aggrieved" that a local candidate had not been added to the shortlist.

Labour MP Madeleine Moon will defend a 1,927 majority over the Tories in June.

Theresa May labels Juncker clash claims 'Brussels gossip'

Theresa May says she will be a "bloody difficult woman" towards European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker during Brexit talks.

The PM revived a line used during her Tory leadership campaign to respond to claims the two clashed over dinner.

In an interview with the BBC's Laura Kuenssberg she also declined to commit to settling the issue of expats' rights by June.

EU sources claim UK misunderstanding of the talks process, and ignorance about how Brussels works, could lead to no deal being agreed on the UK's exit.

Voters should have the option to remain in the EU if they are unhappy with the result of Brexit talks, she said.

The party is also discussing electoral pacts with fellow parties in a "number" of constituencies, she added.

  17. Clegg sets out question for second referendumpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 2 May 2017

    Eleanor Garnier
    Political Correspondent

At his speech a short time ago, Nick Clegg revealed two of the Lib Dems' election promises - both of which will be written in their manifesto.

One, they'll vow to fight until the last possible moment to make sure the government retains as many benefits of EU membership as possible.

And two, they'll promise to give voters a second referendum at the end of the Brexit negotiation process. That'll offer two options - stay in the EU, or leave on the terms Theresa May has come up with.

  18. Dugdale: Elections are not a two-horse racepublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 2 May 2017

    Kezia DugdaleImage source, AFP

Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale is insisting that the local and general elections are not simply a two-horse race between the Tories and the SNP.

At a campaign event in Edinburgh, she said the elections were about "standing up for the public services that we all value, which the Tories want to decimate", and "sending a message to Nicola Sturgeon that the people of Scotland don't want another divisive independence referendum".

    Quote Message

You can protest against the Tories and protest against plans for a second referendum on Thursday with one vote - by voting Labour. And in return, you'll get a local champion for your community."

All 32 councils in Scotland are up for grabs in Thursday's elections. They were last contested in 2012, when the SNP won the most seats but Labour was not far behind. It was a bad night for the Conservatives and the Lib Dems. If current opinion polls are anything to go by Labour can expect losses and the SNP and the Conservatives gains.
