UKIP have suffered big losses in local elections across the country. On Northamptonshire County Council they've lost two of their three seats so far - Brackley and Daventry West - to the Tories.

Keith Hudson is the UKIP candidate for Oakley - currently a Labour seat - and admitted he wasn't feeling confident about his chances.

He said: "UKIP is getting a bit of a kicking.

"We can just live in hope, can't we. Keep looking upwards until you go down."

  3. Street: 'New urban Conservative agenda'published at 17:01 British Summer Time 5 May 2017

Andy Street says his victory in the West Midlands mayoral election represented a "rebirth of a new urban Conservative agenda".

Mr Street's high-profile campaign is reported to have cost almost £1m. The former John Lewis boss gave up his business career last year to stand for the newly-created post.

Large majorities over Labour's Sion Simon in Solihull and Dudley, and solid backing in second preference ballots, saw him elected by a margin of less than 4,000 votes.

Newly elected mayor of Greater Manchester, Labour's Andy Burnham, tells the BBC: "We're going to build a whole new way of doing things here."

He says homelessness will be his priority and with devolution "we can come at issues from the bottom up and that's what we're going to do".

He echoes other Labour figures in describing the party's nationwide performance as "mixed" and blames poor turnout in the mayoral election on Theresa May's decision to call a general election.
