    Liberal Democrat Treasury spokesman Sir Vince Cable dismisses Labour's plan for a financial transaction tax and instead attacks the party over its Brexit stance.

    Labour's economic policy is less Robin Hood than Mickey Mouse. It has already put our financial services sector and advanced manufacturing industry at risk by backing Theresa May’s extreme plans to leave the single market and customs union.

    As business secretary in the coalition government back in 2013, Sir Vince indicated, external he was "quite disposed" to such a levy to "change behaviour" in the financial sector.

    Before that, in 2011, he said he had "no objection in principle" to a globally constituted tax but argued that a tax solely in Europe would amount to a "tax on Britain".

    On the Today programme this morning, Conservative peer Lord Dobbs revealed that Labour is not the only party with form when it comes to leaked manifestos.

    "I remember leaking a Tory manifesto myself many years ago," said the House of Cards author, who was chief of staff and later deputy chairman of the Conservative Party.

    "We had a struggle over who was going to pay any notice to this, so we leaked it and we ended up on the front page."
