But his supporters argue that he has been scrutinised in private Parliamentary hustings, one-to-one meetings with Tory MPs and Tuesday's BBC TV debate.

    House of Commons
    Parliament

It's a busy day for Conservative MPs as they enter a final two rounds of voting in order to establish the choice for their members on the next prime minister.

But, there are other events taking place in the Palace of Westminster.

MPs are about to take their seats on benches in the Commons. They'll start the day with environment and Commissioners' questions.

There's an urgent question tabled by Conservative Brexiteer Sir Bill Cash on further payments to the EU in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

Then, the government will unveil business for the week ahead in the Commons, followed by two statements on pornography age verification and export licences.

This will be followed by two backbench debates on refugee family reunion and access to justice.

The day will close with an adjournment debate on establishing a medical duty of care for sea port agents.

That's where we're going to leave our live coverage for today, after the latest ballot of Tory MPs saw the number of leadership contenders cut down to four.

International Development Secretary Rory Stewart has been knocked out of the contest, having come last with 27 votes - 10 fewer than last time.

Michael Gove has closed the gap slightly with Jeremy Hunt, who remains in second place. Sajid Javid, in fourth, will join them in the next round tomorrow morning.

The frontrunner remains Boris Johnson. He now has 143 votes - 17 more than last time and as many as his three remaining rivals put together.

A fourth and - if necessary - fifth round of voting will take place tomorrow to whittle the field down to the final two, who will be voted on by Tory members.

We should know that final pair tomorrow...so do join us then.

    BBC News Channel

Education Secretary Damian Hinds said earlier his preferred candidate, Michael Gove, has made "accelerated progress" in today's round and has “closed the gap” with Jeremy Hunt.

Meanwhile, Simon Hoare, who is supporting Sajid Javid, said there will be "conversations going on overnight" about whom MPs will vote for tomorrow.

Mr Javid, he says, is the candidate who can "take the fight" to Boris Johnson as the "agent of change" within the Conservative Party.

"If colleagues are thinking about that - how to make the Tory party look interesting in this next round - Boris and Saj is an interesting contest."

"I'm sure there'll be lots and lots of conversations before we do this again at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning," she adds.

She says "a lot of this is about the politics - having similar positions on things like Brexit", but it's also down to "personal friendships", promises people have made to colleagues.

    BBC News Channel

Rory Stewart - who is currently serving as International Development Secretary - says he appears to have "written my cabinet resignation" with his campaign.

He says he wishes Boris Johnson "the best of luck", and with a dose of "reality" and "noble vision" he can unify the Conservative Party.

He says he has not decided whom he will support among the four remaining candidates - instead saying he will now go home and play with his children.
